Light Heavyweight Bout Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate vs. Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh
Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate (17-7-1) has won seven of his last eight bouts and is coming off arguably the biggest win of his career. Diabate is a fighter that likes to stay on the feet and pick apart his opponents with smooth yet powerful striking. His debut in the UFC took place in May of 2010 against heavy handed Luiz Cane. Diabate showed heart surviving a big punch that put him on his back and followed it with a TKO just 2:13 into the first round.
Anthony “The Hippo” Perosh (11-6) strongest area is jiu-jitsu evident by his eight stoppages by submission. He is 1-3 within the UFC with his only win coming in his most recent fight and after a drop from heavyweight to light heavyweight. The drop should make him a formidable opponent given his size and grappling ability.
This is a bout that will play out like most grappler verses striker matches. The outcome will be dictated on where the fight takes place and who better imposes their game plan. Perosh (+300) needs to close the distance to utilize his grappling to drag this fight to the mat. It will be up to Diabate (-500) to stifle the takedowns with a stick and move strategy to stay on the feet. Perosh will put up a good fight but ultimately Diabate hands will prove to be too much for him.
Prediction – Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate by way of TKO

Lightweight Bout Terry Etim vs. Edward “Falo” Faaloloto
Winner of four of his last five fights Terry Etim (14-3) is looking to show he is a true contender in the lightweight division. Etim is a submission specialist finishing eleven of his fourteen victories by tap out. Even though he is young at 25 Etim has a wealth of experience inside the octagon competing eight times.
Edward “Falo” Faaloloto (2-2) is still a new face in the world of MMA. He started his career with back-to-back wins before moving over to WEC. Since the move and the step up in competition he has dropped two fights in a row both by TKO. This will mark his second fight in the UFC and has to prove he has what it takes to stick with the best in the world.
Etim’s (-500) game plan for this fight is going to be fairly straightforward. He will use his striking less for damage and more for setting up a takedown. Even though Faaloloto (+300) has a submission victory to his name he won’t have the jiu-jitsu to hang with Etim. Etim wins this fight with relative ease.
Prediction – Terry Etim by way of submission

Welterweight Bout Thiago “Pit Bull” Alves vs. Papy “Makambo” Abedi
Thiago “Pit Bull” Alves (18-8) was once the terror of the welterweight division. Between 2006 and 2008 Alves went 7-0 finishing five of his opponents by (T)KO. That tear earned him a shot at the welterweight belt against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 100. He would end up losing that bout and since then has gone 1-2 with all of the fights going to decision. Alves has lost the edge that once made him so dangerous and it’s what he needs to rediscover to make himself relevant at 170.
Papy “Makambo” Abedi (8-0) will be making his UFC debut in his bout with Alves. Abedi has shown that he’s a finisher with only one of his fights going to decision. Four times Abedi has finished an opponent in the first round, two by TKO and two by submission.
This fight has fireworks written all over it. Alves (-300) needs to find that drive that made him so lethal on his run to the title shot if he wants to take this fight. Unfortunately he is running into a fighter that has himself on a roll. Look for Abedi (+220) to make a huge statement in his first fight with the organization and do everything in his power to finish Alves. Bettors should feel good about backing the underdog in this fight.
Prediction – Papy “Makambo” Abedi by way of TKO

Bantamweight Bout Brad “One Punch” Pickett vs. Renan Barao
Brad “One Punch” Pickett (21-4) is another fighter making his octagon debut at UFC 138. Before coming over Pickett fought four times with the WEC and looked impressive going 3-1 in the organization. He has shown well rounded skills finishing seven fights by (T)KO and nine by submission.
Renan Barao (26-1, 1 NC) suffered the only defeat of his career in his MMA debut. Since then he has ripped off 26 victories in a row with a no contest thrown in. Much like his opponent Barao has showcased well rounded skills with twelve submissions and six knockouts. His one bout in the UFC he won by unanimous decision over Cole Escovedo.
As with many of the lighter weight fighters these two have the ability to finish a fight anywhere. Pickett (-110) likes to fight at a very high tempo to utilize his excellent cardio. He likes to grind his opponents into exhaustion and capitalize when they are at their weakest. The problem is that Barao (-120) will be able to keep up with the pace and amass offense in any situation. It’s hard to argue with 26 wins in a row and don’t expect that streak to end.
Prediction – Renan Barao by way of unanimous decision

Middleweight Bout Chris “The Crippler” Leben vs. Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz
As a product of the original The Ultimate Fighter Chris “The Crippler” Leben (22-7) has amassed a wealth of experience in the octagon. Leben is a fighter that will take punishment on the feet in order to create an opening for a knockout. His excellent chin and bomb of a left hand allow him to wade in on opponents and capitalize on opportunities. His most recent victory came against Wanderlei Silva where he knocked him out in just :27.
Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz (11-2) is one of the strongest wrestlers in the middleweight division. He couples this with some of the most vicious ground-and-pound in all of MMA. He is currently riding a three fight win streak with his most recent coming against the submission wizard Demain Maia. Munoz has serviceable standup and very heavy hands that he uses to compliment his powerful wrestling.
Both of these fighters have one punch knockout power. Leben (+190) has made a career and put people on the wrong end of highlight reels with his left. The difference will be what takes place on the ground. Munoz (-250) is too intelligent of a fighter to get dragged into a street fight with Leben. Munoz is going to use Leben’s aggression against him. As Leben wades in swinging look for Munoz to change levels and score takedowns pretty much whenever he wants. As long as Munoz doesn’t walk into a bomb he wins this fight with wrestling and ground-and-pound.
Prediction – Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz by way of unanimous decision
