Bantamweight Bout
Yves “Tiger” Jabouin vs. Ian “The Barn Owl” Loveland
Yves “Tiger” Jabouin (15-7) has won eleven of his fifteen victories by way of TKO or KO. Professional since 2001 Jabouin is known for his heavy hands and serviceable wrestling. He was riding a four fight win streak coming into his debut in WEC where he dropped his first two fights with the organization. Jabouin’s first fight in the UFC ended when Pablo Garza slapped on a beautiful flying triangle late in the first round. His current record under the Zuffa banner is 1-3 and this fight marks his move from the featherweight division.
Ian “The Barn Owl” Loveland (14-8) made his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale where he was able to win a decision against Tyler Toner. Loveland has a very well rounded skill set winning six fights by TKO or KO and six by submission. He was riding a seven fight win streak after his victory over Toner and was given a step up in competition in his following fight. He ended up losing a unanimous decision to Joseph Benavidez in his bantamweight debut and is looking to rebound.
Both of these fighters have very well rounded skills but it is Jabouin (NA) coming in as the more desperate. Losing four out of five could essentially end his UFC career and that is exactly what he is staring at against Loveland (NA). Jabouin needs to keep this fight standing and use his heavy hands to keep octagon control and make Loveland retreat. With a good wrestling background Jabouin should be able to control on the ground but he’ll want to avoid the mat given Loveland’s jiu-jitsu. Jabouin comes in desperately needing a win and pulls out a close decision.
UFC 134 Prediction – Yves “Tiger” Jabouin by way of unanimous decision

Featherweight Bout
Yuri Alcantara vs. Felipe Arantes
Yuri Alcantara (24-3) hasn’t lost since October of 2009 and is currently riding an eleven fight win streak. Inside those eleven wins four came by way of TKO or KO and six by submission. He is always looking to finish fights evident by twenty two of his twenty four wins coming by way of stoppages. This will be Alcantara’s debut at featherweight spending the majority of his career in the lightweight division. Given how crowded the UFC lightweight division is it’s ultimately a good career move.
Coming into this fight as a late replacement Felipe Arantes (13-3, 2NC) is a muay thai striker that uses fast hands and heavy kicks to control fights. He has finished ten of his victories, six by TKO and four by submission. Coming in late to this fight gives him a tremendous opportunity to showcase his MMA skills on the biggest stage in the world.
The difference maker in this fight will be the experience to Alcantara (NA). He’s had the opportunity to fight on the big stage where Arantes (NA) is a late addition whose only experience is in local promotions. Bettors can feel confident that the experience of Alcantara will win him the fight.
UFC 134 Prediction – Yuri Alcantara by way of submission

Bantamweight Bout
Raphael Assuncao vs. Johnny Eduardo
Raphael Assuncao (14-4) started his career 15-1 with an aggressive muay thai attack and excellent BJJ. Assuncao has recently hit a rough patch going 1-3 getting finished twice. Urijah Faber handed him his first submission loss and Erik Koch beat him down knocking him out in the first.
Johnny Eduardo (25-8) has the unique opportunity to make his UFC debut in front of his home country of Brazil. Turning pro in 1996 Eduardo is currently on an eleven fight win streak. He has shown the ability to finish winning thirteen fights by submission and six by knockout.
This is another fight that is showcasing a fighter desperate for a win. Assuncao (NA) needs to break out of his current funk and get his career back on the right track. Even though Eduardo (NA) has a wealth of experience it has been against lesser competition. Another factor swinging in Assuncao’s favor is that Eduardo has lost six times by way of submission. Even though Eduardo has excellent BJJ offence his defense has holes. Assuncao has finished nine fights by submission and bettors can expect that number to increase to ten.
UFC 134 Prediction – Raphael Assuncao by way of submission

Welterweight Bout
Paulo Thiago vs. David “Daudi” Mitchell
Paulo Thiago (13-3) started out his career 11-0 which included his UFC debut against Josh Koscheck. Thiago was able to knockout the perpetual contender in the first round with an uppercut and earned himself Knockout of the Night. He has earned himself two other fight bonuses in the UFC, a Submission of the Night against Mike Swick which ended in a d’arce choke and a Fight of the Night loss against Diego Sanchez. Thiago has never been stopped in a loss but he has dropped his last two fights and needs a win to get back on track.
David “Daudi” Mitchell (11-1) started his professional career fighting in his local California promotions. He went an impressive 11-0 before making his UFC debut in September of 2010. He was handed the first loss of his career by way of unanimous decision by TJ Waldburger. Mitchell has finished nine of his eleven wins by submission.
Mitchell (NA) enters this fight as a relative unknown. What is clear is that he has very good submissions and won’t shy away from going to the ground with Thiago (NA). The problem that Mitchell will face is that Thiago is also an excellent submission technician but he also has the hands to work him over on the feet. Thiago will dictate the pace of the fight and have the luxury of taking where ever he feels more comfortable.
UFC 134 Prediction – Paulo Thiago by way of TKO

Middleweight Bout
Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares vs. Dan Miller
Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares (21-3) is the definition of a leg lock specialist. He has a 5-2 record inside the octagon and has finished three of those fights by leg lock and another by armbar. Anytime the fight hits the mat Palhares has the ability to finish. In March of 2010 he finished Tomasz Drwal in just 0:45 with a heel hook. Unfortunately Palhares was given a 90 day suspension because he failed to let go of the submission after Drwal tapped resulting in him getting injured.
The always tough and highly respected Dan Miller (13-5, 1NC) enters this fight as a replacement for the injured Alexandre Ferreira. Miller has lost four of his last six with his most recent loss coming to Nate Marquardt. Miller has a very nice ground game of his own finishing eight fights by submission. Miller has never been finished with all five of his losses coming by way of decisions.
This is going to be a bout that will showcase two fighters with high level grappling. Miller (+220) is an always game opponent that has shown he’ll step in whenever needed. Before he went on a three fight losing streak he had put together four victories in a row finishing three by submission. The difference is going to become evident through the power of Palhares (-300). He has a short, stocky build that he uses to bull through his opponents to take them to the ground. Miller will put up a good fight like he always does but Palhares is going to be too much for him to handle.

Lightweight Bout
Thiago Tavares vs. Spencer “The King” Fisher
Known as a BJJ specialist Thiago Tavares (15-4-1) has finished eleven fights by submission. An exciting fighter even in defeat Tavares has earned Fight of the Night honors three times, all in losses. Consistency has been his biggest problem as of late going 3-4-1 in his last eight fights. In his most recent loss Tavares got knocked out by Shane Roller in the second round.
Spencer “The King” Fisher (24-7) has shown well rounded skills in his career finishing ten fights by TKO or KO and nine by submission. He is a scrappy fighter that is known for his heart and heavy hands. His lone bonus performance came against Shannon Gugerty in a Submission of the Night by triangle choke. Fisher has lost three out of his last four and needs a victory to stay relevant in the UFC.
This fight is going to be a classic striker versus grappler matchup. Even though Fisher (+180) has shown a serviceable ground game he is the kind of guy that likes to trade punches in the pocket. Tavares (-240) is the superior grappler and submission technician and will undoubtedly be looking to get this fight down. Even though Tavares looked good in his loss to Roller he showed he can be susceptible to punching power. Bettors can look for Fisher to exploit this and pour it on when he senses he has Tavares dazed.
UFC 134 Prediction – Spencer “The King” Fisher by way of TKO
