Predators vs Canucks Series Odds and Predictions – 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting

2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Semifinals – Nashville vs Vancouver Series Odds, Predictions and Preview: Nashville and Vancouver bring very different emotions into this second round matchup. Thanks to an offensive barrage, the Predators knocked off the No. 4 seed Anaheim in six games. Meanwhile, the Canucks saw a 3-0 series lead against the No. 8 seed Chicago nearly slip away before finally winning Game 7 in overtime. Despite being the best team all year, Vancouver suddenly seems vulnerable after its scare against the Blackhawks, and this series could be more exciting than many people expect.

In terms of momentum, the Predators actually have the upper hand. Led by Shea Weber on offense and Pekka Rinne in net, Nashville finished the regular season on a tear. Over the final 15 contests, the Predators scored to a tune of 3.33 goals per game. In the six games against the Ducks in the opening round of the playoffs, Nashville pumped in 22 more goals. As long as they continue to average nearly four goals a game, the Predators are going to be a tough out for any team.

The Canucks didn’t compile the best record during the regular season by accident. Daniel Sedin led the NHL in total points, and Henrik Sedin led the league in assists. Not to mention the fact that Vancouver scored more goals than any other team during the regular season. Despite his near meltdown in the opening round, goalie Roberto Luongo was a big part of the team’s success this year as well. In fact, the Canucks gave up the fewest number of goals in the NHL. In other words, this team is loaded on both ends of the ice.

Despite the regular season stats being heavily in favor of the Canucks, the opening round was further proof that the NHL playoffs are always unpredictable. With goaltending always such a factor in the playoffs, Luongo’s recent struggles could keep this series interesting. Even during the regular, his goals against average of 2.11 was only slightly better than Rinne’s 2.12 average. If he gives away a game or two as he did against Chicago, Nashville is more than capable of beating the Canucks.

However, there is also a chance that Luongo’s almost epic choke could be just what he needed to get his mojo back. He played well in Game 7, giving up only a single goal. As long as he has his head on straight, Vancouver should be able to come out on top. After all, this is a Canucks team that scored the most goals and gave up the fewest goals during the regular season. The close call in the opening round should only help the best team in the NHL get a little more focused. The Predators run ends here.
