Free NHL Playoffs Picks and Odds – Game 4 Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Predictions 5/6/11: The Philadelphia Flyers have had absolutely nothing to show for through three game in their second round eastern conference playoff series and all indications are that this team has climaxed. Down three games and with their hopes dwindling, the Flyers had received little contributions from their elite skaters and next to none from their supporting cast. They are being outskated to the puck, outworked on the boards, and out manned in front of the net, a tell tale sign that they are not mentally or physically in the series. In last year’s playoffs they became stronger as the playoffs wore on and got all the way to the Stanley Cup finals as an eighth seed, but this year they have reversed this notion in that they are weakening by the game. They start slow and try to make up ground way too late in contests, never attributable traits of Flyers clubs from past seasons.

The Boston Bruins have been in a frenzy ever since dropping the first two contests at home to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round. They have only lost once since dropping the pair and they are getting stronger by the game. Goaltender Tim Thomas is finally living up to expectations in the playoffs and he is on a collision course with the Conn Smythe trophy. He is affording his team the opportunity to pinch and play vulnerable defensive hockey in the interest of goal scoring. Thomas is also controlling his rebounds and giving little garbage in front of the net for the Flyers forwards to take advantage of. Tomas Kaberle, the Leaf cast off, has performed mightily in this second round series and his vision and puck movement has added a missing element to this club that has been lacking for years.

There is little going for the Flyers in this series and their determination and fight that was quite evident in the regular season and first round is all but non-existent. Brian Boucher has not afforded his club any breaks as well, and unfortunately you need a goaltender that has the ability to steal some games in the playoffs. The Bruins have a new found determination that is quite visible in every shift, and on every line, on any given night. They are great at jumping out of the gate hot and have the playoff mentality to not get over zealous offensively when the game is in their hands. Claude Julien knows the urgency for this club to win now and he has his club primed for a Stanley Cup appearance this year. Boston is 7-1 SU in its last 8 games and is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Philadelphia. The Bruins also hold the best home record among teams participating in the playoffs this year, Boston is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games at home. Philadelphia is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games and is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games on the road. We will consider the Boston Bruins knocking off the Flyers tonight on way to a long awaited eastern conference semi-final appearance. Cheers!
