Free Stanley Cup Finals Picks, Free Tips and Odds – Game 6 Vancouver Canucks @ Boston Bruins Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Predictions 6/13/11: Five games into the Stanley Cup Finals, and a road team has yet to win a single game in the series. The Bruins have come close, but three victories on home ice by the Canucks have Vancouver up 3-2 and one win away from the first title in franchise history as the series shifts back to Boston for Game 6 Monday night. Meanwhile, the Bruins will look to continue the trend of home dominance and fend off elimination by forcing a Game 7.

The story of this series has been the drastically different outcomes of the games played in Vancouver and those played in Boston. All three games played in Vancouver have been close, low-scoring affairs won by the Canucks. However, the two games in Boston have seen the Bruins win in blowout fashion. Boston piled up 12 goals in their two wins, while the Canucks needed just five goals combined in their three victories.

Sticking with the drastic differences between the two teams, it has been a tale of two offenses for Boston and a tale of two goaltenders for Vancouver. Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo has been nearly perfect in three home games, giving up just two goals and shutting out the Bruins twice. However, Luongo allowed 12 goals in the two games in Boston – the most in a two-game stretch in the finals since 1984. Meanwhile, the Bruins offense has been invisible on the road and next to unstoppable in Boston.

The one constant in the series has been Boston goalie Tim Thomas. In the five games played thus far, he has given up just six goals, and only five of those goals came in regulation. Unlike the Bruins offense, he hasn’t disappeared in Vancouver. Thomas has surrendered just five goals in three games, losing 1-0 in both Game 1 and Game 5. Thomas has certainly played well enough to win the Stanley Cup, but instead, a lack of offensive support has the Bruins on the brink of elimination.

The outcome of Game 5 could end up being the biggest predictor of Monday’s Game 6. After two dominating wins in Boston, the Bruins appeared to have the momentum heading back to Vancouver. However, the change in venues immediately brought a return of the low-scoring tempo seen in Game 1 and Game 2. At this point, it is safe to say that the team with home ice is going to be able to dictate the style of play.

Based on what happened in the first two games in Boston, Monday’s game has to favor the Bruins. Boston outscored the Canucks by a combined score of 12-1 in Game 3 and Game 4, making an easy win by the Bruins the most likely scenario. If Luongo can be a completely different goalie at home than on the road, why can’t the Boston offense do the same?

Bettors should expect Thomas to continue his stellar play, especially in a possible elimination game for the Bruins. The Canucks will be lucky to score more than one goal in Game 6, and the Boston offense should be able to pump in at least three goals in front of the home crowd. Boston has been covering spreads(check the latest odds at SBG Global) all series thanks to Thomas, and bettors will want to take their chances with best goaltender in the NHL once again.
