Stephen G here to renew my weekly NFL picks section. Each week, I’ll pick all the Thursday/Monday games as well as the best Sunday plays. As all long time readers know, and new readers should understand, I am not a professional handicapper for NSA. I am just a writer for “Final Score Report” and a long time NFL observer. On to the picks:
Thursday 9/9
New Orleans(minus 5) – The Saints have to be seething at how everyone says they only won the title by riding a wave of turnovers. Will they repeat as superbowl champs? Maybe, maybe not. But what I do know is they will start out strong and show Brett Old Fart, the Bald Guy and everyone else that it was no fluke beating the Vikings last year. Lay the points.
New Orleans/Minnesota (Under 48)- Probably goes against conventional wisdom to play the under with 2 good offenses, but going against Johnny Public is what I do here at FSR.
Sunday 9/12
Pittsburgh (plus 2) – Beware of the wounded dog my friends. The Steelers will rally behind Dixon and give Atlanta all they can handle. Plus, the Falcons are not a good road team and this Matty Ice character may be a one-hit wonder if last year and this preaseason are any indicator.
Green Bay (-2.5) – The jury is still out on this new QB in Philly and there may be some opening game jitters. Green Bay has a lethal offense and will score points, can Philly keep up? I’ll take the better team here with a small cover.
Miami (-3) The Dolphins are too physical for Buffalo and can’t see them starting out losing a division game to the Bills in week one. Is Buffalo still an NFL team?
New York Giants (minus 6.5) The G-men remember getting embarrassed on their home field last year by Carolina and will have no trouble being fired up. Carolina has a good young quick defense that can limit NY’s points, but the Panther offense is one dimensional. Can’t see the Panthers scoring enough points and the Giants laying an egg in their new stadium’s first regular season game.
Monday 9/13
Baltimore (+2.5) The Ravens can stop the run game and make the Sanchise have to beat them with his arm. Plus Baltimore practices against the same defense and can mix it up enough to move the ball. I’m not sold on the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets, being all that G-O-O-D good, good, good. Baltimore wins outright.
San Diego (-4.5) I’ll take the best QB in a tough divisional game. The New England coordinators, sorry I mean KC’s new coordinators will need time to make improvements. The Bolts by a touchdown.
