NFL Offseason Winners and Losers

For a year in which the entire world is basically shutting down piece by piece, the NFL has provided us with some incredible movement during the offseason. Today, I just want to take a quick look at who the winners and losers are so far of this NFL offseason with the best pph site A1pph.com

Winners: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Look, is Tom Brady old? Yes. Did he just turn in his worst season in quite some time? Maybe. Is 24 touchdowns and 8 interceptions all that bad? No, it really isn’t. You also have to recognize that Brady has thrown 8 fewer interceptions in his last 156 games than Jameis Winston has thrown in his 72 career games. At worst this is a modest upgrade.

You also have to like the pairing of coach and quarterback here. If you ever watched Coach Arians on “All or Nothing”, you can safely assume that he and Brady will get along very well. The only issue here is that Brady doesn’t quite possess the same deep ball as he did years ago, but Mike Evans certainly has the ability to be a big time possession receiver that Brady covets. I am also sure that Tom can conjure up the ability to reach out and touch Chris Godwin on a fly route every now and then as well.

Losers: Minnesota Vikings

The loss of Stefon Diggs is not great. I understand that it had to be done but if I am going to commit that much money to Kirk Cousins I am going to give him the best weapons possible he isn’t necessarily a quarterback that is going to make those around him much better, ala Rodgers, Brady, Wilson, etc.

For the sake of the Vikings, hopefully Adam Thielen can return to form after being dinged up in 2019. Minnesota also needs to address issues in the secondary.

Winners: Atlanta Falcons

The loss of Austin Hooper certainly hurts but turning around and trading for Hayden Hurst and his 77% catch rate was a great move. Todd Gurley is worth the risk and adding Donta Fowler on the defensive side of the football is also solid.

Losers: Houston Texans

Can someone please make Bill O’Brien stop before he turns Deshaun Watson into post-Superbowl Joe Flacco? We have this above-average signal-caller but nothing around him. Trading a top-five offensive weapon for a 28 yr old running back isn’t good. When you start tossing around draft picks, it gets even worse.

Defensive tackle DJ Reader was also trending into a high impact defensive lineman and he just walked out the door for a fat contract in Cincinnati.

Houston could actually be ok if Will Fuller can find the ability to stay healthy for a complete season but that has become highly unlikely at this point.

Winners: Cleveland Browns

Snagging the best offensive lineman on the market will always pave the way for you to win offseason. Jake Conklin solidifies an offensive line that was already in the middle of the pack as far as sacks surrendered last season.

The signings of Austin Hooper (70 receptions 700+ yards) and Kareem Hunt (37 receptions in 8 games) also ensure that the Browns will continue to progress on the offensive side of the football. Hunt was good in his role with Cleveland last season under a regime’ that…probably shouldn’t have happened.

Losers: New England Patriots

We are about to find out if it was Brady or Belichick. Outside of losing TB12, the Pats also lost Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy, and Durel Harmon. The losses on the defensive side of the football will most likely be addressed during the draft but it will be interesting to see which veterans head to New England to play for Bill as in year passed with so much uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Never forget, this is the same coach that went 10-5 with Matt Cassell under center.
