Mike Vick this. Mike Vick that. Good lord, enough already with this guy. Has anyone else forgotten to remember that this guy simply is not that good and had failed to live upto his #1 draft status before he made a complete ass out of himself off the field? I mean, seriously, every time I turn on the TV, visit a website, or read the newspaper I keep having to see this guy’s ugly mug accompanied by nails against the chalkboard analysis of how he will help the Eagles in 2009. Well, if he plays anything like he did for the Falcons before he got thrown behind bars, he won’t help much.
Listen, I’m not saying the guy isn’t a great athlete or a “good” player. He is. However, guys like Vick are a dime a dozen in the NFL. There are plenty of great athletes and good players all over the NFL. What Mick Vick isn’t is what very few players in the NFL are….and that’s a “great” quarterback. Is Vick suppossed to be “special” or “great” just because he is an outstanding athlete playing the QB position? Well, give an elite cornerback or wide receiver a QB number, put him behind center, and you’ll have another “great” athlete playing a position that he shouldn’t be playing. Mike Vick is NOT that good of a quarterback people. In fact, he is mediocre.
When we talk Mike Vick the “player”, we are talking about a quarterback with a career rating of 75.7, including a QB rating of 81.6 in 2002 as his career best in any one season. We are also talking about a QB with a career completion percentage of 53.8, only 71 TD’s thrown in 74 games played, and a QB that’s career high in passing yards for any one season is just 2936(2002 season). Sure, he’s rushed for 21 TD’s and a had a career high 1039 yards rushing in 2006, but so what? Name me the last rushing QB that could NOT pass that led his team anywhere? Sure, Steve Young liked to tuck the ball and run too, but at least that guy could also throw! Mike Vick is no Steve Young. In fact, he’s nothing but an overhyped, overrated, dog abusing, punk. A great quarterback he is NOT.
