The season is now into week 6 and we are starting to know the contenders, the prentenders and the pitiful… This week, we start to see just how good the G-Men and Saints are as well as the Ravens and Vikings… As for yours truly, let’s just say I’m much like the NE Patriots, off to a sputtering start and hopeful that improvement will happen as the year progresses. So, keeping in mind I am just a blogger and not a NSA Wins professional, here are my picks for week 6….
Last Week: 4-3 57%
Season: 16-21 43%
Sunday 10/18
Cincinnati minus 5 – In a battle of preseason picks for “breakthrough-team-of-the-year“. Only Cincinnati has lived up to the hype thus far. The Bengals have taken control of their difficult division and coming off the big win vs. the Ravens, I don’t see them blowing it by losing to a lesser team at home. Of course, this is Cincinnati we’re talking about, but I think they are on a roll, lay the points.
Baltimore plus 3 – Can we please settle down on this Minnesota team? I mean they’re okay as far as NFC teams go, but I for one aren’t ready to annoint them as a top 5 team. I don’t care what their record is, and who exactly have they beaten anyway? Baltimore is a good squad and they CANNOT afford to lose 3 in a row and fall behind two teams in their division, nevermind the AFC conference. They just need to play smart and physical and stop bitching about the refs…. Give me the points!
Philadelphia minus 13 – The Birds can lay the wood to crappy teams with the best of them! And as crappy teams go, the Silver and Black certainly qualify! They didn’t show up in NY last week at all and they are already making vacation plans… Their players know they are the laughingstock of the league, they have no QB, and their coach is more worried about avoiding jail time and getting suspended than game-planning…
Seattle minus 3 – Now that Matt Hasselbeck is back in the saddle, they resemble a team that can be competitive and showed their potential last week. They have to be feeling pretty good and know they can climb right back into the division title hunt with a win against a so-so Arizona team. Since SF is looking like a fraud, Seattle can and should win this division provided Hasselbeck stays off the shelf…
New York Jets minus 9.5 – The Jets are finding out that, unlike the Nobel Peace Prize competition, there are no prizes given out for potential… You have to EARN your playoff spot in the NFL! As Kerry Rhodes is so fond of saying, they got EMBARRASSED down in Miami…. Anyway, I’m betting they take it out on the embarrassment that is the Buffalo Bills …
Monday 10/19
San Diego minus 3 – I’m sure Johnny Public will be all over the Broncos in this game given their quick start and their win over NE coupled with San Diego’s lackluster start. But as Lee Corso says, “not so fast my friends”… Sure Little Hoodie’s win against Big Hoodie was impressive, but I’m betting that they will have an emotional letdown and San Diego will be desperate not to fall 3 full games behind them in the division. A Charger win here and it’s only 1 game behind with another head-to-head game later in the year; rest assured we will see San Diego’s best effort here…
San Diego/Denver Over 43.5 – The Over play is on fire on Monday games….
