Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets 2010 NFL Predictions, Odds, and Picks Week 1

Baltimore Ravens at New York Jets 2010 NFL Predictions, Odds, and Picks Week 1: Monday Night Football kicks off early with a battle of bruisers as the Baltimore Ravens travel to the new $1.6 billion dollar Meadowlands Stadium to take on the New York Jets at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN. Head football coach Rex “bleeping” Ryan formerly the Ravens defensive coordinator wants the other teams in the league to hate them for being so good and they’ve added some players to improve. Future Hall of famer LaDainian Tomlinson is in the fold after 9 seasons with San Diego and he is joined by newcomers Jason Taylor and Antonio Cromartie who are happy to be here as well. The chin music is at an all-time high, Raven’s linebacker Ray Lewis is jawing about Rex, LaDainian, and anyone else he can think of with a love, respect, and hate rampage. Even Head football coach John Harbaugh chimed in ”It’s a big deal; obviously, it’s New York City, that’s a big deal. You have a brand-new stadium. I think that’s a very momentous, historic kind of a thing and very meaningful to the Jets and their fans. We’re honored to be a part of it. We’re glad they asked us to come up and be a part of it.” The odds makers at SBG Global have the New York Jets -1 1/2 point favorites at home against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Jets are coming off a 9-7 season where they made the playoffs as a wild card and just came up short of making it to the Super Bowl. Then rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez threw for 2,444 yards and 12 touchdowns but it was their ground and pound running attack that defined who they were. Running back Thomas Jones ran for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns but was replaced by Tomlinson. The Jets also traded for Santonio Holmes from the Steelers but he will be out the first 4 games due to disciplinary problems. Vegas odds makers have the New York Jets as +950 odds to win the 2011 Super Bowl.

The Ravens have been known for being a tough, punishing defensive team but they have improved offensively with young quarterback Joe Flacco who threw for 3,613 yards and 21 touchdowns in his sophomore season. Baltimore added former Pro Bowl wide receivers Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh for Flacco giving the offense additional firepower. The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Baltimore’s last 7 games on the road. Vegas odds makers have the over/under for the total score at 36 points combined of Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets.

“Whatever he feels that they want to say, and all these Jets want to talk about this, man, you’ve still got to play the game,” Lewis said. “The game ain’t played through tongues. The game is played when you buckle up your chinstraps.” Strap them up they will and it’s a sure bet this will be a physical game. I predict a home victory and cover for the J E T S Jets!
