Ravens-Jets
As preseason games go, last night’s game between Baltimore and the New York Jets was pretty entertaining. As could have been predicted, New York quarterback Mark Sanchez wasn’t ready for prime time. He threw a pick six on his first pass attempt and hit Ray “look at me” Lewis right between the 5 and the 2 but Lewis dropped the ball. He later threw a TD to salvage his night but he looked like a rookie. I’m not saying he won’t be good later on, but he’s certainly not ready at this point. He will probably start the season since Kellen Clemens had a chance to show Ryan he should win the job but he threw a hideous pick six in his first series too. On the other side, Baltimore’s Joe Flacco looked real good and if their offense can throw the ball as well as they did last night, they will be a force to deal with this year.
Michael Vick Drinking Photo
The New York Post published a photo showing Michael Vick having some Vodka drink at a Philadelphia hotel bar. Well, Tony “the babysitter” Dungy comes out and tells Vick that “You can’t do that Michael”… What ? Look, I’m a dog lover and I think what Vick did was despicable and he deserves all the crap that’s come down on him for it. But, he did his time and he’s been released from jail and is free to live his life. Since when is it illegal to have a friggen drink? God knows, I need one on many occasions. Who the hell is Tony Dungy to say whether he can have a drink, was he breaking the law? Hey Tony, shut the hell up and go away…..
Philip Rivers Deal
Did you see San Diego re-signed Philip Rivers to a 6-year $92 million extension with about $38 guaranteed? Wow, first Eli now Rivers… What will Brady command on his next deal? And speaking of New England, how will this affect the ongoing negotiations with Vince Wilfork? I know they play different positions, but Wilfork is being told by owner Robert Kraft that they can’t commit to long term deals now because of uncertainty regarding the labor negotiation and possible uncapped year coming up. Wilfork, to his credit, counters that it isn’t holding up the other 31 teams and yesterday’s deal is another example. Plus, they just signed Nick Kaczur, a stiff of a right tackle to a contract extension. I think it’s time for Kraft to “pay that man his money”
