2020 NFL Betting Props: Favorites & Value Bets for AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year
We still don’t have a lot to bet on in the sporting world, but the NFL is moving forward with plans for the 2020 season, and the scheduled is slated to be released. I’ve been taking a look at a variety of 2020 NFL Betting Props for the upcoming season, and this time around, we turn our attention to the defensive side of the ball and the top bets for the 2020 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.
2020 NFL Betting Props – Favorites to Bet
Aaron Donald, DT, Los Angeles Rams (+750)
Donald was named Defensive Player of the Year in both 2017 and 2018, and if anything, he has become a victim of his own success. His 12.5 sacks in 2019 were the second most of his career, and he led the league in tackles for loss for the second year in a row while also logging 24 quarterback hits. Those numbers were viewed as a down year. The fact that Donald delivers this type of production from the defensive tackle spot makes it even more incredible, and he has shown no signs of slowing down. If you are throwing a bunch of money at DPOY candidate, it should unquestionably be thrown Donald’s direction.

Khalil Mack, OLB, Chicago Bears (+1100)
He regressed a bit after a monster 2018 campaign, but Mack still managed 8.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, 14 quarterback hits and four passes defensed. An average season for Mack includes about 70 tackles, double-digit sacks and around 20 quarterback hits, and a return to the norm should put him right back in the mix for DPOY honors. After all, Mack won this award in 2016 and was the runner-up in 2018. If anything, his dip in production last year has created an opportunity for bettors. Jump on him at +1100.
Nick Bosa, DE, San Francisco 49ers (+1300)
Bosa’s turned in a memorable rookie season, finishing with 9.0 sacks, 16 tackles for loss and 25 quarterback hits. He also chipped in 4.0 sacks in San Francisco’s three playoff games. Arguably the most explosive playmaker for one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL, Bosa seems like a lock to improve on his numbers in Year 2. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him lead the NFL in sacks as a sophomore, and with the 49ers likely to be back in title contention, he is going to have plenty of chances to make big plays in big spots. Bosa is getting the third-best odds to take home DPOY honors, but the potential payout is almost double that of the current frontrunner, Aaron Donald.
2020 NFL Betting Props – Value Bets
Danielle Hunter (+2300)
He has been an effective edge rusher since breaking into the league, but he has really taken his game to another level the last two seasons. Hunter has turned in back-to-back 14.5-sack campaigns, delivering at least 70 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 19 quarterback hits in both years. At just 25 years old, Hunter is just entering his prime, and he is the biggest playmaker for one the league’s best defenses. He is already a star, and there is a good chance we haven’t seen his ceiling. At +2300, sign me up.
Darius Leonard, LB, Indianapolis Colts (+3600)
Leonard exploded on to the scene as a rookie in 2018, leading the NFL with 163 combined tackles and 111 solo stops. He also picked off a pair of passes while recording 7.0 sacks and four forced fumbles. Even with missing three games last year, Leonard finished with 121 tackles, 5.0 sacks, five interceptions and seven passes defenses. He has already established himself as one of the most versatile defensive playmakers in the league, and he is only entering Year 3. The Colts have all the pieces in place to be a legitimate playoff contender in 2020, and I think team success will only make his numbers stand out more in the eyes of voters. Leonard is my favorite value bet for DPOY.
