2019 NFL Preseason Rankings – NFC West Power Rankings: The division previews continue as the 2019 NFL season quickly approaches, and believe it or not, we have less than two weeks until Week 1 of the regular season officially kicks off. We continue to break down the NFC divisions, are we are heading out west. The defending NFC champion Los Angeles Rams should once again be among the major players, but Russell Wilson always keeps Seattle relevant. Throw in a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco and No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray now leading the Arizona Cardinals, and the NFC West could be a lot deeper than it has been in several years. Let’s check out how the teams stack up.
2019 NFL Preseason Rankings: NFC West Power Rankings
1. Los Angeles Rams
We have seen plenty of teams fall apart after a Super Bowl loss, but I don’t see that happening with the Rams. Don’t forget that they were missing receiver Cooper Kupp and had a one-legged Todd Gurley during throughout the playoffs, and both of those players are healthy entering 2019. Quarterback Jared Goff should only improve with another year of experience in Sean McVay offense, and the Rams should once again be one of the top scoring teams in the NFL. Granted, the defense still isn’t a lockdown unit, but the unit has the best individual defender in the league in Aaron Donald and more than enough playmakers to support Goff and company. Look for the Rams to defend their NFC West crown and make another Super Bowl push.
2. Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks did a great job of reinventing themselves into a run-heavy, big-play passing offense last season, and Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny are back to form a two-headed monster in the backfield. Quarterback Russell Wilson is one of the best playmakers and leaders in the league, and he has two excellent deep threats at his disposal in Tyler Lockett and rookie D.K. Metcalf. The defense is a far cry from the “Legion of Boom” era, but head coach Pete Carroll had the unit trending in the right direction last year, and I expect another step forward in 2019. I don’t think they quite have enough to dethrone the Rams, but with Wilson leading the way, I think the Seahawks fight for a wild-card spot.
3. San Francisco 49ers
Injuries derailed the 49ers’ 2018 season before it could even get going, but with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo back under center, they will have a chance to make some noise. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has a track record of building potent offenses, and the offseason and the draft resulted in a serious upgrade in firepower in the form of running back Tevin Coleman and receivers Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd. Plus, tight end George Kittle and receiver Dante Pettis are already in house. The secondary and linebacking corps remain questionable, but San Francisco defensive front should be nasty. I think the 49ers are a year away from making the leap to playoff team, but Garoppolo and company have a huge ceiling.
4. Arizona Cardinals
I have my concerns about Kyler Murray’s ability to stay healthy over the long haul, but overall, I think Murray and the “Air-Raid” offense is going to put point up in bunches, especially in Year 1. That being said, the Cardinals have glaring weaknesses along the offensive line and on the defensive side of the ball that aren’t going away. I’m expecting big numbers from Murray as he claims Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, but I don’t think his individual success translates into many wins.
