2019 AFC Championship Game Betting Preview – New England Patriots @ Kansas City Chiefs

The New England Patriots enter their 8th straight AFC Championship Game and are looking to advance to the Super Bowl for the 4th time in the last 5 seasons. Just when you though the dynasty was over and the Patriots were officially on the decline, here they are once again in the AFC Title Game after looking dominant last week.

The Patriots beat the Los Angeles Chargers 41-28 last Sunday at home in Foxboro in a game that was never in doubt. The Patriots stormed out to a 35-7 halftime lead and took their foot off the gas in the 2nd half instead of completely embarrassing an overmatched Chargers team.

The Patriots had a balanced offensive attack as they rushed for 155 yards on 34 carries while the passing game led by Tom Brady threw for 343 yards with 34 completions on 44 attempts. The Patriots defense also did it’s part as they hurried Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers all game and limited the Chargers running game to just 19 yards on 10 carries.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs were already resting last Sunday as they advanced to the AFC Championship Game on Saturday with a dominant 31-13 win at home over the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs covered easily as -5 point favorites as they jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the 1st half and never looked back.

The Chiefs will now host their first AFC Championship Game in Arrowhead Stadium history and look very formidable. The Chiefs were dominant in both phases of the game against the Colts offensively as they rushed for 180 yards on 33 carries and threw for 253 yards. The 2018 NFL regular season MVP, quarterback Patrick Mahomes did not throw a touchdown but he connected on 27 of his 41 passes and had the Chiefs moving at will up and down the field.

The Chiefs defense also did it’s part last week by shutting down Colts quarterback Andrew Luck for most of the game. Luck was held to just 203 yards passing and connected on just 19 of his 36 passes. The Colts ground game rushed for 87 yards on just 14  carries so the Chiefs must get that run defense tightened up going against a New England ground game that has looked very physical and dominating over the last few games.

These two teams played in the regular season on October 14th in Foxboro. The game was a shootout with the Patriots ultimately kicking a game winning field goal as the clock expired to win 43-40. It’s worth noting that former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt played a big part in that game as he rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries and also caught 5 balls for 105 yards and a touchdown. The Patriots caught a big break by seeing him released by the Chiefs after a domestic violence tape came out against Hunt.
