2018 NFL NFC East Odds & Expert Picks/Predictions – NFC East Division Forecast
1. Philadelphia Eagles(-200 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Eagles won the franchise’s first Super Bowl Championship last season and are among the favorites again in the latest odds to win Super Bowl LIII. Head coach Doug Pederson will never have to buy another meal again in the City of Brotherly Love and rightly so. Pederson did an incredible job keeping the Eagles together and focused after a season ending injury to star quarterback Carson Wentz late in the year and the team didn’t skip a beat with backup quarterback Nick Foles leading the way. Wentz returns this season and the Eagles appear to be deeper and better on paper then they were last year. If Wentz can regain form and be the player he was by the time this year’s playoffs roll around then look for the Eagles to be the scariest team in the NFL come playoff time. Wentz is simply a stud and the best player in the NFL when healthy.
2. Dallas Cowboys(+250 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Cowboys were a popular pick to win the NFC and make the Super Bowl last season before the season started but things didn’t go as planned for head coach Jason Garrett and company. The Cowboys started a respectable 5-3 overall last year but a 3 game losing skid in the middle of the year dropped them below .500 and they ended up at just 9-7. The Boys cut ties with veteran wide receiver Dez Bryant and veteran tight end Jason Witten retired so the offense is now squarely on the shoulders of quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliot. That’s a strong duo but time will tell if they can get the Cowboys back to the postseason and do damage when they get there as the jury is out on whether they have enough help in the passing game to keep the offense humming. Defensively, the Cowboys finished 8th in total defense last season and appear to be even better this season with the addition of 1st round pick, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch from Boise State.
3. New York Giants(+500 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Giants are coming off an embarrassing 3-13 season last year that resulted in Ben McAdoo getting shown the door and new head coach Pat Shurmur was brought in. Shurmur was the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator last season and is a capable football mind but he will have a lot of holes to plug on a Giants roster that isn’t ready for primetime in our eyes. The Giants decided to use their 1st round draft pick on running back Saquon Barkley out of Penn State who should help take a load off of 37 year-old quarterback Eli Manning and star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The Giants finished just 21st in the NFL in total offense last season so it’s not unreasonable to expect them to be improved this season with the addition of Barkley and Shurmur to go with a healthy Beckham Jr and Manning. On defense the Giants have a lot of work to do after finishing a woeful 31st in the NFL last year in total defense. Don’t expect much improvement this season in our eyes as the defense is lacking impact talent at every level of the defense and the depth chart is not exactly top tier.
4. Washington Redskins(+800 odds to win NFC East at Bovada) – The Redskins shocked many of it’s fans and fans around the NFL when they decided to trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for veteran quarterback Alex Smith this past offseason. While former Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins was overrated in our eyes we still don’t get the love affair with Smith. Smith is nothing more then a game manager who gets exposed each and every postseason so it’s hard to get excited about the Redskins chances the next couple of seasons with this guy running the show. The Skins finished just 16th in total offense last season and it’s tough to see them being improved at all this year when we see a drop off from Cousins to Smith. Defensively, the Skins were a subpar 21st in the NFL in total defense last year and should be improved this year with the addition of 1st round pick, defensive lineman Da’Ron Payne out of Alabama.
