2017 Week 4 NFL Picks & Predictions – Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos Odds & Free Pick
The Oakland Raiders come into this week 4 NFL game with an overall record of 2-1 and 2-1 against the spread. The Raiders are looking to get back in the win column after getting embarrassed last Sunday night in the nation’s capital with a 27-10 loss to the Washington Redskins as a -3.5 point favorite.
The Raiders came into this season being picked by many to have arguably the most explosive offense in the NFL and certainly amongst the best at minimum. However, the Raiders offense was completely shut down against the Redskins last week as they gained only 128 total yards and were held under 100 until some garbage time yards were added on a meaningless drive with only a minute left to play. Quarterback Derek Carr is the highest paid player in the league and thinks he is better than he truly is. He’s a solid quarterback but great quarterbacks don’t get held to 96 passing yards against the Redskins like he was last week. Sorry.
The Raiders defense also has a ways to go if it wants to be good enough for the Raiders to make some noise in the postseason this year. The Raiders defense allowed 472 yards including 356 thru the air last Sunday against the Skins and starting to look like the same mediocre unit that finished 26th in total defense last season in the entire NFL.
The Denver Broncos come into this week 4 AFC West Division home game with a 2-1 overall record and 1-1-1 against the spread. The Broncos are also looking to get back in the win column after losing 26-16 at Buffalo last Sunday as a -3 point favorite.
The Broncos defense has been one of the best units in the league the last few seasons and is once again one of the best units this season when looking at the stats. The Broncos have only allowed 249 yards to the Chargers, 268 yards to the Cowboys and 272 yards to the Bills in the first three weeks. However, they have now allowed 21 points or more in two of their three games as they gave up 21 to the Chargers and 26 to the Bills. The name of the game is keeping points at minimum and they need to get better with that because total yards allowed is the sizzle but points allowed are the steak.
Offensively, the Broncos have been the middle of the pack unit we figured they would be before the season started. Quarterback Trevor Siemian has gotten hyped up by his teammates and some media jock sniffers so far this season but we still don’t see it. The guy is a middle of the pack quarterback and nothing about him jumps off the screen at you. He has a respectable 87.5 quarterback rating to go with 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions this season. Siemian will need to bring his “A” game if he expects to lead the Broncos to a win this week against the Raiders.
