2017 Week 2 NFL Picks & Predictions – Dallas Cowboys @ Denver Broncos Odds & Free Pick
The Dallas Cowboys come into this week 2 matchup riding high on the hog after their dominant 19-3 win at home in week 1 against the New York Giants. The Cowboys easily covered the -4 point spread and looked impressive doing it as they served notice to the rest of the NFL that last season was no fluke and they are a legit Super Bowl contender this season.
The Cowboys had star running back Ezekiel Elliot on the field last week against the Giants as he is still eligible to play while he fights the NFL in court over his 6 game suspension. Elliot rushed for 104 yards on 24 carries against the Giants and helped the Cowboys move the chains en route to 392 total yards of offense. Quarterback Dak Prescott was solid in leading the offense as he passed for 268 yards and 1 touchdowns while throwing zero interceptions.
The Cowboys defense was the story of the game in their win against the Gmen last Sunday night. The defense completely shut down the Giants offense and held them to just 233 total yards. The defense did have the benefit of playing a Giants offense minus star wide receiver Odell Beckham but they still deserve plenty of credit for holding a talented Giants offense to just 3 points.
Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph has to be the most relieved person in Denver right now as he held on to win his debut as Broncos head coach Monday night with a 24-21 win over the LA Chargers. The Broncos almost blew a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter but escaped after the Chargers gagged on a last second game tying field goal that would have sent the game into overtime. Denver pushed on the -3 point spread.
The Broncos offense was serviceable against the Chargers in week 1 as they racked up 321 total yards of offense. The unit certainly wasn’t great but 24 points will win a lot of games for Denver this season especially with their defense. Quarterback Trevor Siemian had a solid game as he passed for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns while throwing one interception. He ended the night with a quarterback rating of 94.2.
The Denver defense has been one of the most feared units in the NFL the past few seasons and looked that way much of the night against the Chargers. They ended up holding the Chargers to just 249 total yards but weren’t themselves down the stretch as they allowed the Chargers to get back in the game and move the ball enough to setup a potential game tying field goal. The Broncos defense won’t give up 21 points in a single game much this season so we will chalk up last week’s late falter as opening week sloppiness.
Who are we betting on to cover the spread in the Cowboys-Broncos week 2 NFL game? We are betting on Dallas to win as a -2 point favorite. The Denver defense is superb but Dallas has just enough balance on the offensive side to put up enough points to get this road win. We are still far from sold on the Broncos offense and quarterback Trevor Siemian and we don’t think he is capable of winning this big game on Sunday.
