2015 NFL Picks & Predictions – NFL Power Rankings Week 1
Top 10 NFL Teams As We See It Heading into 2015 Week 1 NFL
1. New England Patriots – The Patriots are going to be an extremely motivated team this 2015 season after all the turmoil they have had to deal with in the media this offseason from “Deflategate” to the newest accusations made today by an ESPN OTL report. The Patriots offense will be one of the top 3 units in the league with Brady, Gronk, Edelman and Blount among others, while the defense will surprise many naysayers with a young and improving front seven to help make up for the losses of Revis and Browner in the secondary.
2. Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks should once again have the league’s best defense and the offense will be more balanced and improved with the addition of all pro tight end Jimmy Graham. The Super Bowl loser traditionally has a tough go of it the following season and has a tough time even making the playoffs but this isn’t a normal Super Bowl loser. The Seahawks have had the most talent in the league the past couple seasons and this season they might even be better with Graham added to the offense.
3. Green Bay Packers – The Packers were actually our choice to win the Super Bowl before the summer began but the season ending loss of star receiver Jordy Nelson has altered our thinking. Certainly the Packers will still be a force to be reckoned with as Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the NFL in our opinion, but the loss of Nelson will make his job harder in trying to overcompensate for a defense that is less than elite.
4. Dallas Cowboys -The Cowboys were outstanding last season and are out to prove that last season was no fluke. Count us in amongst the people who believe the Cowboys are for real and are a true Super Bowl contender this season. Tony Romo has his detractors but the guy is a legit Top 10 quarterback and the offense should be fine even after losing Demarco Murray to the Philadelphia Eagles. If the defense can get a boost from the addition of pass rusher Greg Hardy than don’t count out seeing the Cowboys make a run at Super Bowl 50.
5. Indianapolis Colts – A lot of people feel the Colts are the AFC favorite this season but we still have huge doubts as to whether or not they can hang with New England when the weather gets cold in January in Foxboro. Of course, the Colts could have a huge regular season and win home field advantage to take that out of the equation. The Colts offense should put up points in bunches and could easily lead the NFL in scoring. However, the defense is still a work in progress and will ultimately keep them from winning the Super Bowl in our opinion.
6. Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins will surprise a lot of people this season. The defense will be elite with the addition of Ndamukong Suh to the defensive front while quarterback Ryan Tannehill will continue to move up the list of top quarterbacks in the NFL. Don’t be surprised if they give New England a run for it’s money in the AFC East.
7. Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens easily could have beat the Patriots in the AFC Divisional Playoff round last season but blew two leads of 2 touchdowns to the eventual Super Bowl Champions. Look for the Ravens to once again be solid on both sides of the ball and be a tough out come playoff time.
8. New Orleans Saints – The Saints lose all pro tight end Jimmy Graham in a trade with Seattle but improved their offensive line in the process b y picking up center Max Unger. The defense will be improved and be tougher with the addition of gritty cornerback Brandon Browner. Look for the Saints to get back to winning double digits this season and win the NFC South.
9. Denver Broncos – Peyton Manning played poorly down the stretch last season and many wondered if he was done. However, his lower body injury has healed and he is looking to make one last run at an elusive 2nd Super Bowl victory and his first in Denver. New head coach Gary Kubiak will try and rely more heavily on a running game offensively to help save Manning’s arm and body from taking too many hits. Look for Denver to be solid on both sides of the ball and be a more physical team this season.
10. Arizona Cardinals – Head coach Bruce Arians is a super coach and he has done a great job in his first two seasons as the Cardinals coach. This year’s team should be his best team yet and they have serious intentions of challenging Seattle for the NFC West title. We won’t go that far but we do see Arizona back in the NFC Playoffs and if Carson Palmer can stay healthy they will have a shot at making some noise in the postseason this year.
