2015 Free NFL Picks Week 2 – New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills Odds & Expert Free Picks
The NFL’s most hated villains, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, bring their defending Super Bowl Champion Patriots into Ralph Wilson to try and quite a newfound cocky Bills fan base. Head coach Rex Ryan’s brash attitude has rubbed off on the Bills fan base and they are all feeling their oats after beating the Indianapolis Colts at home 27-14 in week 1. However, make no mistake, the Bills will have to play at a higher level if it wants to beat a much tougher, better coached and more clutch quarterback this Sunday when they host the Patriots.
The Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-21 in their season opener in week 1 at Foxboro to kick off their defense of the Super Bowl Championship they won last season. Tom Brady played at his usual top shelf level as he tossed 4 touchdowns in the win with three of those touchdown passes going to all pro tight end, Rob Gronkoswki. The Patriots defense played well in spurts and held the Steelers to 14 points before letting up a garbage time touchdown with just 2 seconds left but will have to play much better in Buffalo this week if they want to come away with a tough road win at Buffalo.
This series has been owned by Bill Belichick and Tom Brady over the past 15 seasons as the Patriots are 23-3 against Buffalo with Belichick and Brady on the field. Rex Ryan has certainly given both Belichick and Brady fits and made them earn many of their wins when they battled during the time Ryan was the Jets head coach the past half dozen years. However, in the end, Belichick and Brady did go 9-4 against Rex Ryan’s Jets and are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
This game boils down to two things in our opinion. Can the Patriots offensive line solve the Bills pass rush and give Brady enough time to pick apart an average Bills secondary that can be exposed if they aren’t getting enough help from the Bills rush? And can the Patriots defense avoid getting bullied by the Bills offensive line and make Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor have to beat them in the air as a one dimensional attack instead of getting the balance we feel it needs to win this game.
Make no mistake, if Brady gets enough time to throw the ball on Sunday the Patriots will win this game and should win it going away because there’s no way Tyrod Taylor will be able to match Brady in a shootout. However, if the Bills can come out and jump out ahead early and establish the ground game than it could be a long day for Brady and company if the Bills defense can pin it’s ears back and send blitzers from all angles as they play with house money by having the lead.
In the end, our money is going down on arguably the greatest quarterback and head coach tandem in NFL history. This isn’t their first rodeo and they will not be fazed by the hype and pressure that this game is getting from the media. The best two players on the field Sunday and almost every Sunday are Brady and Gronkowski and we don’t see how the Bills defense will be able to shut these guys down enough to get the win. The Patriots are not the Colts and the Bills and their fans will learn the hard way on Sunday. Brady moves to 24-3 versus the Bills with a win we feel will be around 24-20
