2011 St Louis Rams NFL Odds and Predictions – Rams Super Bowl Odds and NFC Championship Futures

2011 St Louis Rams NFL Expert Predictions, Picks, 2012 Vegas Super Bowl Odds and Schedule – St Louis Rams NFL Football Season Preview: Last season, the St. Louis Rams came up one win short of winning the NFC West and making the playoffs. When you consider that the team came that close to a postseason appearance despite starting quarterback Sam Bradford being a rookie, it is easy to understand why the Rams are garnering so much buzz leading into the 2011-12 campaign. With new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels expected to help the offense reach new heights, St. Louis has its eyes on a return of the glory days of the “Greatest Show on Turf” and a division title. The only question is whether or not potential and reality will be one in the same.

It’s safe to say that Bradford lived up to and exceeded expectations in his first season in the NFL, and that is tough to do when you are the No. 1 overall pick. He completed 60 percent of his passes for more than 3,500 yards despite playing in on offense that couldn’t really stretch the field. That should change this season with McDaniels calling the shots and host of new targets at his disposal. Bradford’s continued progression into a franchise QB will be the most influential factor in determining how far the Rams can go this year.

Newly acquired Mike Sims-Walker will a key factor in helping Bradford take the next step. He is the downfield threat the Rams have been missing in the passing game and a proven No. 1 option. Sims-Walker has scored 14 touchdowns over the last two seasons despite playing in run-first offenses in Jacksonville. The new relationship with Bradford should benefit both parties, pushing the numbers for both players to career highs.

Bradford’s other main target on offense will be slot receiver Danny Amendola. Last year’s team leader in catches could thrive as he inherits the same role in McDaniels’ offense as Wes Welker had while McDaniels was at New England. Other options now at Bradford’s disposal include rookie tight end Daniel Fells, who already looks like a legitimate red zone performer. Throw in highly-productive college receivers Austin Pettis and Greg Salas, and the passing attack should only get better as the year goes on and the two rookies develop. Not to mention that versatile running back Steven Jackson is going to contribute heavily in both the running and passing attack. Overall, Bradford and company are young, but they are also dangerous.

While the offense boasts the big names, it was St. Louis’ defense that put up the best numbers last season. Second-year Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo made an immediate impact on the unit, transforming it from one of the worst in the NFL to the 12th best in terms of opponents scoring. With sure-tackling safety Quintin Mikell and veteran cornerback Al Harris joining the secondary and linebacker Brady Poppinga and rookie defensive end Robert Quinn joining the front seven, the Rams defense should be even stronger this season. Quinn in particular has impressed during the preseason, and he and former first-round pick Chris Long could form one of the top pass rushing duos in the NFC.

Granted, the Rams are still an inexperienced team at many positions, but they had even less experience last season when they nearly won the division. With Bradford another year older and with more weapons on offense, St. Louis looks like the team to beat in an NFC West that is far from intimidating. Throw in Spagnuolo and his reloaded defense, and a 10-plus win season with a trip to the postseason seems more than reasonable.
