NSAwins.com has posted the odds to win the Sharpie 500 NASCAR race for Saturday, August 22 at 7:30 PM EST at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Surprisingly, all 160,000 seats have been sold for tonight’s race, as racing in front of thousands of empty seats has been the norm the past few weeks in NASCAR racing. The vegas oddsmakers have installed Mark Martin and Kyle Busch the favorites to win the 2009 Sharpie 500, as both drivers have been given 6.5/1(+650) odds to win the race tonight. Martin, who will be making his 1,000 career Cup start tonight, must produce a good showing if he wants to qualify for the Chase for the Cup in a few weeks. Martin is currently holding on to the 12th and final spot for the Chase and is just 12 points ahead of Brian Vickers, who is in 13th place. Martin has won a series-high four races and missing out on the Chase would be in his own words, “devestating”. “I have accomplished everything that I hoped to accomplish this year, and much more,” he said. “It just would be devastating for my team to not be included in that group.” Martin hasn’t enjoyed that much success lately at Bristol, as he has finished in the top 5 just one once in his last 15 starts at the track. The good news for Martin is that he starts on the pole tonight, his fifth of the season. The race for the Chase will be a big storyline in NASCAR over the next few weeks, as only 166 points seperate the 7th position(Juan Pablo Montoya) from the 15th position(Kyle Busch). That means nine drivers will be fighting for only six spots, which should create some very interesting and exciting racing the next few weeks in NASCAR.
