2019 NASCAR All-Star Race Odds, Picks & Predictions – Favorites at Charlotte Motor Speedway: The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series takes a break from the regular season this weekend for the 35th running of the All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Saturday night’s event is unique for a variety of reasons, and the rules and format have been tweaked throughout the years to keep things fresh and exciting. One thing that hasn’t changed is the $1 million prize awarded to the winner, and when you turn the best drivers in the business loose with nothing but cash on the line, some fireworks are to be expected.
This year, the race will be divided among four segments for a total of 85 laps. Only drivers who have won a race since the start of 2018, former All-Star Race winners and former series champs are locked into the field, but four more drivers will be added through the Monster Energy Open earlier in the evening a fan vote. When the field takes the green for the main event, 19 drivers will be in the mix.
With only the best in the business on the track, you aren’t going to find a lottery ticket in the field when placing your bets, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some money to be made. Check out my top bets and favorite longshot for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte.
2019 All-Star Race Odds, Picks & Predictions: Favorites at Charlotte Motor Speedway
The Favorites
Kyle Busch (9/2)
Busch has been the best driver in the series in 2019, and there’s no reason to expect him to slow down this weekend. Not only did he win the All-Star Race in 2017, but he clobbered the competition at Charlotte last May, leading 377 of the 400 laps in his win in the Coca-Cola 600. Busch has appeared in the All-Star Race in each of the last 13 seasons, and he has led double-digit laps in 12 of those starts. He’s going to be in the mix for the win Saturday night.
Kevin Harvick (13/2)
He is the defending winner of the All-Star Race and a two-time winner of the event overall. Harvick has also been a force in the event since joining Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014. In five All-Star starts with SHR, Harvick has a 5.4 average finish and has finished either first or second three times. He has also led more than 20 laps in the All-Star Race in two of the last three years. Throw in the fact that he and crew chief Rodney Childers are always among the first to figure out any rule changes NASCAR installs, and you have to like Harvick’s chance this weekend.
The Contenders
Brad Keselowski (7/1)
Although he is still looking for a win in the All-Star Race, Keselowski has been the runner-up in the event three times, and he has led laps in this race in three of the past four seasons. He is also having an impressive year at the 1.5-mile ovals, winning at Atlanta and Kansas and finishing second at Las Vegas. With Charlotte having a similar configuration, I like Keselowski’s chances of finally sealing the deal in the All-Star Race this weekend.
Joey Logano (15/2)
Logano conquered the All-Star Race back in 2016, and he’s been remarkably consistent in the event throughout his career. In eight starts, he has seven finishes of eighth or better, and he has finished third or better four times. Logano heads into All-Star weekend as the series point leader, so you know speed hasn’t been an issue in 2019. He’s a safe bet to be battling for the win Saturday night.
Denny Hamlin (12/1)
In terms of potential payout, Hamlin is easily the best value on the board this weekend. He has cracked the top five in five of his last six starts at Charlotte, leading laps in four straight races. He’s been equally strong at the track for the All-Star Race, cracking the top 10 in the event in nine of his last 10 starts and winning the 2015 race. His record will stack up with any driver in the field this weekend, and at 12/1, he is offering almost double the payout of the other big names.
Sleeper Special
Jimmie Johnson (20/1)
I know the seven-time champ isn’t the heavy hitter he used to be, but he’s still been able to make some noise in the All-Star Race despite his overall struggles the past couple of years. He led 19 laps and finished third in the 2017 race, and he was able to finish sixth in this event last season. Johnson’s four wins in the All-Star Race are the most in NASCAR history, and he has also won eight times at Charlotte during the regular season. At 20/1, he is by far my favorite longshot in the field.
