2019 FireKeepers Casino 400 Odds & Predictions – Favorites & Bad Bets at Michigan International Speedway: The 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season rolls on this weekend with a trip to Michigan International Speedway. The track will host Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400, the first of two races here in the summer months and the second race of the year at a two-mile oval.
The first race at two-mile track came back in March at Auto Club Speedway, and while Michigan is not an identical copy of Auto Club, the similarities in size does make it a solid comp. If that’s the case, Kyle Busch and the Team Penske cars are going to be in good shape Sunday, and not surprisingly, you will find all of them among my betting favorites.
Check out a closer look at all of my top bets for Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, along with some big names who I am staying away from this weekend.
2019 FireKeepers Casino 400 Odds & Predictions: Favorites & Bad Bets at Michigan International Speedway
Favorites to Bet
Kyle Busch (11/4)
Fresh off his series-leading fourth win of 2019, Busch will look to continue his impressive season this weekend at Michigan. He has four straight top-10 finishes here, finishing fourth and third in the two races last year. In the first race of this season at a two-mile track, Busch led a race-high 134 laps, sweeping both stages on his way to a dominant win at Auto Club Speedway in March. Given how well he is running overall, Busch gives you a great shot to win at every track on the schedule right now.
Kevin Harvick (5/1)
When it comes to delivering elite finishes at Michigan, Harvick has been in a league of his own. His seven top-five finishes in the last 10 races at the track are the most in the series and three more than any other driver. Harvick has led more than 30 laps in five of those 10 starts, leading 49 laps in a runner-up effort last spring and 108 laps in a win here last August. He is probably the safest bet to be in the hunt for the win.
Brad Keselowski (8/1)
His numbers at Michigan speak for themselves, and over the last 10 races here, he has eight top-10s, including finishes of sixth and second last season. Perhaps more importantly, Keselowski’s team seems to have figured out the best way to manufacture speed out of the 2019 rules package NASCAR is using at these larger ovals. Not only did he lead 42 laps and finish third at Auto Club Speedway, but he has finished either first or second at Atlanta, Las Vegas, Kansas and Pocono. That’s a very encouraging trend.
Joey Logano (10/1)
Logano has been locked in at Michigan since joining Team Penske, and in 12 starts here with the team, he has piled up 11 top-10 finishes. He also has a pair of wins during that stretch, and he has led more than 20 laps seven times. Logano was the runner-up at Auto Club earlier this year, so he is as fast as ever at the two-mile ovals. His 10/1 odds really aren’t bad for a driver who is all but a guarantee to be running towards the front Sunday.
Big Name to Avoid
Martin Truex Jr. (6/1)
Speed hasn’t been an issue for Truex at Michigan, but for a variety of reasons, he hasn’t come away with great finishes. Despite leading laps in five of the last six races here, he has only come away with two top-10s and a single top-five finish. More importantly, he has never won a race at MIS. Look, I still consider Truex a threat to win this weekend, but taking him at 6/1 doesn’t make sense when several drivers with much better resumes are paying out even more.
