2019 B&L Transport 170 Odds & Predictions – Favorites, Value Bets, Sleepers at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course: While the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and the Truck Series head to Michigan International Speedway this weekend, the XFINITY Series continues the road course-heavy portion of its schedule with a trip to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Saturday’s B&L Transport 170.
The 13-turn, 2.25-mile track will be hosting an XFINITY race for just the seventh time in its history, and there has yet to be a repeat winner. Three of the previous six races have been one by part-time, road course ringers, but we do have three former winners in the field this weekend.
From a betting standpoint, history says to lean on the proven road course performers. Road racing can be a difficult skill for drivers to master, and many of the drivers in the top XFINITY rides are young and still learning the craft. Road racing experience, not overall talent, should play a big role in who wins the B&L Transport 170 at Mid-Ohio.

Favorites to Bet
A.J. Allmendinger
One of the most talented and experienced road racers in NASCAR today, Allmendinger has made four road course starts at the XFINITY level, picking up two wins and two second-place finishes. He has led double-digit laps in all four of those road course starts, and his only start a Mid-Ohio, Allmendinger led 73 of his 94 laps on his way to the win. If you like playing it safe, he’s your best bet for a win Saturday.
Austin Cindric
After a couple of close calls, Cindric finally sealed the deal and picked up a win last weekend at Watkins Glen, the first XFINITY win of his career. It is no surprise that he broke through at a road course. Cindric has led laps in five of his six road course starts, finishing third or better three times. He actually led a race-high 59 laps and finished second in his Mid-Ohio debut last year, so there’s a good chance Cindric could make it back-to-back road course wins this weekend.
Justin Allgaier
Among the series regulars, Allgaier has amassed the most impressive road racing resume. He is the defending winner at Mid-Ohio and a three-time road course winner overall. Allgaier has finished sixth or better in seven of his last 10 road course starts, logging four Top 3 finishes, including a pair of wins, in his last five starts alone. Allgaier finished third at Watkins Glen last weekend, and he should be right back in the thick of things Saturday at Mid-Ohio.
Value Bets
Regan Smith
He hasn’t raced in the XFINITY Series since 2017, and Smith hasn’t been a full-time driver since 2015. That being said, I wouldn’t expect much rust out of the veteran this weekend at Mid-Ohio, one of his best tracks. He was the runner-up in the 2014 race here, and he went to victory lane the next year. Smith will be behind the wheel of excellent equipment this weekend when he pilots the JR Motorsports No. 8 machine, so he could pick up where he left off at Mid-Ohio.
Chase Briscoe
Briscoe has wasted no time proving he can handle himself on road courses. He finished in the Top 15 in his Mid-Ohio debut last year while driving mediocre equipment, and in his next road course start, he led 33 laps and went to victory lane at The Roval last fall while driving for Stewart-Haas Racing. Briscoe finished sixth at Watkins Glen last weekend, and seems clear that he is going to be a contender whenever the series visits a road course.
Sleeper Special
Will Rodgers
Even some of the more serious NASCAR fans may not be familiar with Rodgers. After all, he has just a single XFINITY start under his belt, and he has never even been in a Truck Series race. However, he does have four wins under his belt in the K&N Pro Series, and all four have come at road courses. Rodgers landed a ride with Brandonbilt Motorsports for Saturday’s race at Mid-Ohio, and that team has been competitive all season, competing for Top 15s on a weekly basis. His proven road racing ability could give him a puncher’s chance at a massive upset this weekend.
