2015 Xfinity Series Odds, Picks & Predictions – Axalta Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200 Expert Picks: The Xfinity Series visits Phoenix International Raceway this weekend for the fourth straight companion event with the Cup Series to open the 2015 season. Cup regulars have claimed the last two races, and with several big names pulling double duty this weekend, there is a good chance a Cup driver will be celebrating for the third straight week. Of course, there are always a few Xfinity Series regulars that find a way to contend, and with that in mind, here is a closer look at the driver to watch in Saturday’s race at Phoenix.
2015 Axalta Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200 Odds: The Favorites
Although his last win at Phoenix in the Xfinity Series came back in 2006, Kevin Harvick is no stranger to running up front at the track. He has been in the field for 17 of the last 20 races at PIR, compiling a 5.6 average finish and logging 14 top-five finishes. In addition to the victory, Harvick has finished second on five other occasions, including in his most recent start.
His 4.7 average finish over the past 20 races at Phoenix is the best of any driver in the field this weekend, and Matt Kenseth has shown he can seal the deal at the track. He has finished in the top 10 in all nine starts at the track during the stretch, picking up a win and two runner-up finishes. Kenseth also finished in the top five in the March race at PIR one year ago.
He went to victory lane in his most recent start at Phoenix in the Xfinity Series, and Joey Logano has never had a bad finish at the track. He has compiled a 5.8 average finish in eight starts, and he has never finished outside the top 10. In fact, Logano has finished sixth or better in four of his last five starts at the track. Logano is listed as the +150 favorite odds to win at Bovada Sportsbook.
2015 Axalta Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200 Odds: The Contenders
After delivering a dominating win at Las Vegas last weekend, Austin Dillon will try to make it back-to-back wins in the Xfinity Series Saturday at Phoenix. Granted, he has never won a race at the track, but he has put together several strong runs. Dillon has finished sixth or better in four straight starts at the track, logging a third-place finish in his most recent start.
The defending series champ is off to a bit of a slow start, but Chase Elliott could right the ship at Phoenix. After all, he finished ninth in his track debut last March, and he notched a top-five finish when the series returned to the track in the fall. Elliott won more races than any other series regular last season, and he could break into the win column Saturday.
He is a former winner at Phoenix, and Elliott Sadler has been one of the more consistent performers at the track recently. He has finished eighth or better in each of his last four starts at PIR, and last year, Sadler finished sixth and third in two starts at the track. Don’t forget about the veteran this weekend.
Ty Dillon enters Saturday’s race as the point leader in the Xfinity Series, and given his success at the track as a rookie last year, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him celebrating in victory lane this weekend. He finished 10th in his track debut in March, and he delivered a fourth-place finish in the fall event. Dillon is the only driver to have finished in the top 10 all three races in 2015, and he should be back near the front at PIR.
2015 Axalta Faster. Tougher. Brighter. 200 Odds: Sleeper Special
While he hasn’t been overly impressive since taking over for the injured Kyle Busch, Erik Jones could be in for a breakout performance this weekend. After all, Phoenix is one of the few tracks where he actually has previous experience. More importantly, Jones finished sixth at PIR last fall in his Xfinity Series debut at the track. Driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, he has the talent and equipment to pull off an upset.
