2015 Kobalt 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Kevin Harvick the 19/4 Vegas Favorite: The 2015 Cup Series is back in action this weekend, and after a trip to the speedy Atlanta Motor Speedway last Sunday, Las Vegas Motor Speedway will once again have drivers topping 200 mph on a routine basis. The track just keeps getting faster as the progressive banking added back in 2006 becomes more worn in. Throw in the fact that speeds were up last weekend at Atlanta with the 2015 rules package, and there is a good chance there will be plenty of excitement in Sin City this weekend. With that in mind, here is a closer look at the drivers that are the frontrunners to reach victory lane in Sunday’s Kobalt 400.
2015 Kobalt 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: The Favorites
He is coming off a win last weekend at Atlanta, and no driver has more career wins at Las Vegas than Jimmie Johnson. In addition to his four trips to victory lane, his 9.2 average finish leads all drivers, and his 113.6 driver rating is by far the best in the series. Meanwhile, Johnson has finished sixth or better in three straight starts at the track.
No driver has been better at Las Vegas over the past four races than Carl Edwards. He has finished in the top five in his last four starts at the track, and during the same stretch, no other driver has more than two top-five finishes. For his career, Edwards is a two-time winner at the track, and his 9.2 average finish is tied for the best in the series.
After struggling at Las Vegas early in his career, Brad Keselowski has more than just righted the ship. Not only is he the defending winner of this weekend’s race, but he is the only driver to have finished third or better in the last two races at the track. Keselowski won more races than any other driver last year, and he could make his first trip to victory lane this weekend.
He logged a top-10 finish at Las Vegas last season, and Matt Kenseth went to victory lane at the track in 2013. More importantly, he is a three-time winner at LVMS for his career, and his 11.5 average finish ranks third among all drivers. Kenseth is a safe bet to be in the mix this weekend, and he has already shown on three occasions that he knows how to seal the deal at the track.
2015 Kobalt 400 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: The Contenders
He has finished as well as second at Las Vegas in the past, and based on his performance at 1.5-mile tracks lately, Kevin Harvick could be making his first trip to victory lane at LVMS as soon as this weekend. No driver led more laps at 1.5-mile tracks last season than Harvick, and he has opened the 2015 season with back-to-back second-place finishes.
Since joining Team Penske in 2013, Joey Logano has become one of the premier drivers in the Cup Series, especially at 1.5-mile tracks. He scored the most points of any driver at the 1.5-mile tracks last year, and he finished a career-best fourth at Las Vegas. Logano has already made one trip to victory lane in 2015, and he could make it two wins in three races this weekend.
In the last seven races at Las Vegas, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has compiled a series-leading six top-10 finishes. More importantly, he has finished second at the track twice during the stretch, including last season when he also led 53 laps. For his career, Junior has three runner-up efforts at LVMS.
