2015 Crown Royal Presents the Jeff Kyle 400 Odds, Free Picks & Predictions: Favorites & Contenders: The Sprint Cup Series heads to world-renowned Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 22nd time, next to winning the Daytona 500, kissing the bricks at the start-finish line at Indianapolis is on the short list of goals every driver wants to accomplish before the end of their career. Unfortunately for most drivers, only the elite drivers in the series usually get to visit victory lane. In fact, 17 of the 21 races at Indianapolis have been won by drivers that have also won a series championship, and Paul Menard is the only driver to win at Indianapolis that doesn’t have at least seven wins at the Cup level. Needless to say, victory lane at Indianapolis has been reserved for some of the best to ever get behind the wheel.

The Favorites

He is the defending winner of this weekend’s race, and no driver has more wins at Indianapolis than Jeff Gordon. In addition to his five victories, he has 17 top-10s in 21 starts, and his 8.4 average finish is the best all time. Gordon has cracked the top five in three of his last four starts at Indianapolis, posting a 3.8 average finish during the stretch.

His four wins at Indianapolis are the second most of any driver, and three of Jimmie Johnson’s wins have come since 2008. He also owns the best driver rating at the track over the last 10 races, and over the same stretch, he ranks first in laps led ad fastest laps run. Johnson has led the most laps in of the last three races at Indianapolis, winning the 2012 event and finishing second in 2013.

Although he has never won a race at Indianapolis, Kyle Busch has put up excellent numbers at the track. He has eight top-10s in 10 starts, including a series-best five straight. Busch has also finished second in two of the last three races at Indianapolis, and no driver enters Sunday’s race with more momentum. He has won three of the last four races, including back-to-back races at Kentucky and New Hampshire.

The Contenders

He won at Indianapolis in 2003, and Kevin Harvick has established himself as one of the best big-race drivers in series history. He has won all four of NASCAR’s crown jewel races and the All-Star Race. His 10.7 average finish at Indianapolis ranks fourth best among active drivers, and last year, he started on the pole, led 12 laps and finished in the top 10 in his first start at the track with Stewart-Haas Racing.

While he is still searching for his first win at Indianapolis, Kasey Kahne has been one of the best drivers at the track. In 11 starts, he has logged eight top-15 finishes. He has also finished seventh or better six times, and he has finished third and sixth in his last two starts. In addition to the solid finishes, Kahne ranks in the top three in both laps led and fastest laps run at Indianapolis over the last 10 races.

He has had several close calls at Indianapolis, including a pair of runner-up finishes, and it seems like only a matter of time before Matt Kenseth seals the deal the historic track. In 15 starts, he has notched seven top-five finishes. Perhaps more importantly, he has finished in the top five in both his starts at Indianapolis since joining Joe Gibbs Racing.

He was solid at Indianapolis in four starts with Joe Gibbs Racing, but Joey Logano has really become a threat since joining Team Penske. He finished a then career-best eighth in his first start at the track with the team, and last year, he logged his first-ever top-five finish. Don’t be surprised if Logano’s upward trend at Indianapolis continues this weekend with a trip to victory lane.
