2015 Alert Today Florida 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Nationwide Series Picks 2/21/15: While the main event of Speedweeks is Sunday’s Daytona 500, the Xfinity Series offers a nice warm-up Saturday afternoon with a 300-mile race at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. Given the history behind Daytona International Speedway, it should come as no surprise that several big names also decide to participate in the Xfinity Series opener, and this year is no exception. With that in mind, here is a closer look at the drivers that could end up in victory lane at Daytona Saturday.
The Favorites
He has been one of the most successful drivers at Daytona throughout his career, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been particularly impressive in the Xfinity Series. He is a six-time winner at Daytona in the series, and in his last five starts, he has three finishes of fourth or better to go along with a 7.0 average finish.
Although he has never won a race at Daytona, Brad Keselowski has come close on numerous occasions. In fact, he has finished second in two of the last three February events at Daytona in the Xfinity Series. He has also finished fourth in third in his last two starts in the Daytona 500. Keselowski is going to be in victory lane at Daytona sooner rather than later.
No driver has more wins in the Xfinity Series than Kyle Busch, and he is a threat to go to victory lane whenever he gets behind the wheel. He owns one Xfinity Series win at Daytona, and he has finished second on three other occasions. Busch finished fourth in the season opener last year, and he is a safe bet to add to his record-setting win total this weekend.
The Contenders
Since returning to the Xfinity Series full time in 2013, Regan Smith has established himself as one of the top restrictor plate drivers in the series. In fact, he is the defending winner of this weekend’s race. Overall, he has finished in the top 15 in four straight starts at Daytona, and last year, he finished first and second in two starts at the track.
He has already had so much success at the Cup level that it is easy to forget that Kyle Larson has only been racing in the Xfinity Series for two years. In that short time, he has enjoyed plenty of success at Daytona. He has finished in the top 15 in all four starts at the track, and he has finished in the top 10 in his last three starts. Meanwhile, his 8.5 average finish is the best among drivers in the field Saturday.
While he has only made starts at Daytona in the Xfinity Series, Austin Dillon has already shown he can contend for wins at the track. He has finished in the top five in three of his four starts at Daytona, and his 8.8 average finish ranks second among all drivers in the field this weekend. Dillon will also return to Daytona a more experienced driver after having run a full year at the Cup level last season.
Although he hasn’t notched a win at Daytona just yet, Elliott Sadler has been one of the steadiest performers at the track. He has finished in the top 15 in six of his last seven starts, logging five top-10s during the stretch. Sadler also has two top-five finishes in his last three starts at Daytona.
The Sleepers
He is a rookie in the Xfinity Series, but Darrell Wallace Jr. got a chance to race at Daytona in the series last summer, and he more than held his own. Wallace finished seventh in his Daytona debut in the series, and he could make even more noise in his second start at the track.
