2014 AAA Texas 500 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Favorites, Sleepers and Drivers to Avoid

2014-AAA-Texas-500-Odds-Free-Picks-and-Predictions2014 AAA Texas 500 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Favorites, Sleepers and Drivers to Avoid: The Cup Series returns to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend, and Sunday’s race will be the 10th of the season at a 1.5-mile oval. Sunday’s race will also be the second in the Eliminator Round, and after Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s win last weekend, all four spots in the championship race are still up for grabs. Expect an intense race at a track that is always among the fastest on the schedule, and here is a closer look at a the drivers with the best chance of emerging with the win in the Lone Star State.

The Favorites

He is going for a season sweep at Texas this weekend, and Joey Logano has been on a roll at the track recently. He has three straight top-five finishes at Texas, including a third-place finish last fall and his win earlier this year. Logano also has momentum on his side. No driver has posted a better average finish during the Chase and no driver has a better average finish at 1.5-mile tracks this season.

Not only is Jimmie Johnson the defending winner of this weekend’s race, but he has actually won the fall race at Texas in each of the past two seasons. Johnson is a three-time winner at the track for his career, and he has finished second on five other occasions.

Kyle Busch has been dialed in at Texas the past few years. He has posted a 6.2 average finish over the past five races at the track, and in his last four starts, he has three finishes of third or better, including a win. Busch finished third at Texas earlier this year so he shows no signs of slowing down.

The Contenders

While he remains winless in 2014, Matt Kenseth has been one of the most consistent performers at 1.5-mile tracks all year. More importantly, he has been one of the best at Texas throughout his career. In the last 20 races at the track, Kenseth’s 7.0 average finish is the best in the series. He has also finished 12th or better in eight straight starts at Texas, posting six top-five finishes over the same stretch.

It hasn’t been a typical year for Greg Biffle, but despite underperforming by his standards, he was still his usual strong self at Texas. He finished sixth at the track in the spring, notching his 11th top-10 in his last 12 starts at the 1.5-mile oval. During the same stretch, Biffle has recorded seven top-five finishes, including a win. For his career, Biffle is a two-time winner at the track.

Although he has never won a race at Texas, Brad Keselowski has been solid at the track lately. He has four straight Top-15 finishes at Texas, logging three top-10s over the same stretch. More importantly, Keselowski has finished sixth and second in his last two starts in the fall race at the track so he should be at his best this weekend.

Sleeper Special

Rookie Kyle Larson is still looking for his first win, but there is a chance it could come this weekend at Texas. After all, he finished fifth at the track in the spring in just his second start at the 1.5-mile oval. Meanwhile, he has been on a tear at 1.5-mile tracks in general lately, finishing eighth, third, second and sixth in his last four starts.

Big Name to Avoid

He actually won the fall race at Texas in 2009, but Kurt Busch has had his issues at the track in recent years. He has just one top-10 in his last six starts at Texas, and he hasn’t had as top-five finish in his last eight starts at the track. Meanwhile, Busch hasn’t even cracked the top 15 in his last three starts at Texas, and he finished outside the top 30 at the track earlier this year.
