2013 Food City 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Kyle Busch the Favorite: The Nationwide Series returns to Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend, and while the track is popular among both drivers and fans, there really aren’t many Cup drivers pulling double duty. With the Chase looming for the Cup regulars, many have decided to focus solely on their duties in NASCAR’s top series. Granted, Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski are two of the Cup drivers that will be in the field so the Nationwide regulars will still have their work cut out for them. After all, Busch was also one of the Cup drivers in the Nationwide field at Bristol in March, and he led a race-high 156 on his way to the win. Busch will be trying for the season sweep at the short track Friday night, and here is a closer look at all the contenders.

The Favorites
Regardless of the series, Kyle Busch has been a stud at Bristol throughout his career. In Nationwide events alone, he has piled up five wins and has finished third or better 10 times in 18 starts. Busch has been particularly strong at the track recently, winning four of the last six races at Bristol. One of those victories came earlier this year so a season sweep could be on tap Friday.
Although his only Nationwide win at Bristol came in 2008, Brad Keselowski has been next to unstoppable in the races leading up to Friday night’s Food City 250. In fact, he has won his last four starts in the Nationwide Series, and the No. 22 team he will be driving for has won three straight races and seven races in 2013. No driver heads to Bristol with more momentum, and no team has been running better. That combination is a recipe for success at any track.
The Dark Horses
While he hasn’t been the most the consistent performer at Bristol, there is no doubt that Kasey Kahne can get to victory lane Friday. After all, he is a former winner at the track in the Nationwide Series, and he has finished second on three other occasions. Yes, there is a chance he could end up wrecked by the end of the night, but there is also a good chance he could end up in victory lane.
Since returning to the Nationwide Series, Elliott Sadler has been dialed in at Bristol. In his last six starts, he has finished eighth or better five times.
More importantly, he has four top-five finishes during the stretch, including a victory last March. Sadler has yet to win in 2013, but he has climbed to second in the standings and is running at his best and is heading to one of his best tracks. He might not be winless after this Friday’s race.
Heading into Friday’s race at Bristol, no series regular is running better than Brian Vickers. He has reeled off six straight top-five finishes, and his 12 top-five finishes in 2013 are only one behind Kyle Busch for the most in the Nationwide Series. Throw in the fact that Vickers finished third at Bristol earlier this year, and it is practically a given that he will be a contender for the win Friday night.
Sleeper Special
He is regarded as one of the top young talents in NASCAR, and Kyle Larson’s potential was on full display when the series visited Bristol in March. He showed a combination of patience and aggression, avoiding the early mayhem and battling Bristol master Kyle Busch for the win in the closing laps. Larson would eventually come up less than a car length short of the win, but the fact that he was able to push the best driver in Nationwide Series history to the brink speaks volumes. Bristol was the site of Larson’s coming out party earlier this year, and it could be the site of his first-ever Nationwide win Friday night.
Big Name to Avoid
With a win under his belt already in 2013, there is no doubt that Trevor Bayne is one of the better series regulars. However, Bristol has never really been kind to him. Bayne has compiled a 16.8 average finish in nine starts at the track. Meanwhile, he has just two top-10 finishes in those starts and has never finished in the top five.
