2013 Feed the Children 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions: Favorites, Dark Horses, Sleepers and Drivers to Avoid: The Nationwide Series heads to Kentucky Speedway this weekend for a Friday night showdown at the 1.5-mile oval. The race is a companion event, and while Kentucky has been a part of the Nationwide schedule for more than a decade, it has only been on the Cup schedule for a couple of years. As a result, the Nationwide regulars may actually have a bit of an upper hand on the big names pulling double duty this weekend.
Last June, rookie Austin Dillon absolutely clobbered the field on his way to his first-career Nationwide Series victory. When I say clobbered the field, Dillon really had the competition covered. He sat on the pole, and he led 192 of the 200 laps on his way to a comfortable win.

The Favorites
The No. 22 machine was in victory lane last weekend at Road America, and it could be back there this weekend at Kentucky with Brad Keselowski behind the wheel. After all, he has posted a 3.6 average finish in five starts at the track. Keselowski has finished fourth or better four times, and he won the 2011 event. He also won the Cup race at the track last year so he has had a pretty good success rate at Kentucky regardless of the car.
He won in his first Nationwide start at Kentucky in 2004, and Kyle Busch has posted three top-three finishes in five total starts at the track. Meanwhile, he has reeled off 10-straight top-five finishes this season, notching a series-high six wins. Busch has been a factor for the win in every Nationwide start he has made this season, and there is no reason to expect that to change this weekend at Kentucky.
While he might not be a series regular, Austin Dillon crushed any and all comers in both races at the track last year. Not only did he win both races, but he started on the pole in both and led 257 of the 400 total laps. After such a thorough destruction of the competition in 2012, it is hard to be against a Dillon three-peat at Kentucky this weekend.
The Dark Horses
Although he has yet to win at Kentucky, Elliott Sadler has been rock solid in three starts at the track. He has finished in the top 10 in all three starts at the track, compiling a 6.3 average finish. More importantly, Sadler has finished in the top five in two of the three starts so he has been in the mix for a win at Kentucky on multiple occasions. His offseason move to Joe Gibbs Racing could be just what he needs to get over the hump and into victory lane.
He has only made two starts at Kentucky in the Nationwide Series, but Sam Hornish Jr. has shown a ton of muscle. He finished sixth in his track debut in 2011, and he jumped to second last year. Meanwhile, his lone victory in 2013 came at Las Vegas, which shares the same 1.5-mile layout that Kentucky has. Hornish outran several Cup Series regulars en route to his Vegas win, and he could do the same this weekend at Kentucky.
Sleeper Special
Rookie Kyle Larson has been quickly making a name for himself at the Nationwide level, and he has really been coming into his own lately. He has reeled off six-straight top-10 finishes heading into this weekend’s race at Kentucky and has finished in the top five in two of his last three starts. Kentucky has been kind to first-time winners in the series over the years, and Larson has the talent to become the next driver to score his first Nationwide win.
Big Name to Avoid
While both Trevor Bayne and Roush Fenway Racing have been traditionally strong at 1.5-mile tracks, Kentucky has been a bit of an exception. For his part, Bayne has failed to crack the top 10 in all three of his starts at the track. Heck, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wasn’t even able to crack the top five at the track, and he won back-to-back series titles for the same team Bayne is driving for this weekend.
