2013 DuPont Pioneer 250 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Joey Logano Favored to Win: While the Cup Series will be racing at Pocono Raceway this weekend, the Nationwide Series will head to Iowa Speedway. The 0.875-mile short track is one of the newest addition to the schedule, hosting its first race in 2009 and hosting two races in the same season for the first time just last year. As with many non-companion events, there haven’t been a lot of Cup Series drivers that have raced at Iowa, and that won’t change this year with just one driver planning on doing double duty.
Last June, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. capped a three-peat at Iowa in dominating fashion. After sweeping both races at Iowa in 2011, he led 209 of the 250 laps on his way to another victory at the short track. The good news for the rest of the competition is that Stenhouse has since made the move to the Cup Series, and he won’t be in the field this weekend.

The Favorite
Only one Cup Series regular is planning on making the trip to Iowa this weekend, and it happens to be last weekend’s winner Joey Logano. While he has never made a start at the track, he is a 19-time winner in the Nationwide Series, making him the most-accomplished driver in the field by a wide margin. In addition to last weekend’s win at Dover, Logano has a 2.5 average finish and four top-five finishes in four Nationwide starts this year. Without any other Cup drivers pulling double duty this weekend, he is the driver to beat this weekend.
The Dark Horses
His 2.8 average finish at Iowa Speedway is the best among drivers in the field this weekend, and in four starts at the track, Elliott Sadler has never finished outside the top five. In fact, he has improved his result in every start at the track, culminating with a victory last August. Sadler has been a contender for the win in every start he has made at Iowa, and there is no reason to expect that to change this weekend in a relatively weak field.
Although he has yet to win a race since returning to the Nationwide Series full time, Brian Vickers has had several strong runs. In fact, he has finished fourth or better five times in 2013, including twice in the last three races. He has been unable to get the better of the Cup regulars thus far, but with only one driver pulling double duty this weekend, Vickers has a golden opportunity to get to victory lane.
With one top-five finish and two finishes outside the top 20 in three starts at Iowa, Trevor Bayne hasn’t exactly been the most consistent driver at the track. That being said, he could make some serious noise this weekend in his first start at Iowa with the No. 6 team. After all, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won three of the last four races at the track while driving for the team so Bayne will be inheriting a strong setup from a race-winning team.
Sleeper Special
While he hasn’t led a ton of laps and has only won a single race this year, Regan Smith heads to Iowa as the point leader because of his unmatched consistency. He has finished in the top 15 in all 11 races in 2013, and he has finished in the top 10 in the last nine. Granted, Smith only has three top-five finishes thus far, but with almost all the Cup regulars sitting this one out, he could make the jump from top-10 driver to potential race winner.
He has started all five Nationwide races that Iowa Speedway has hosted, and Justin Allgaier has finished in the top 10 in four of the last five. More importantly, he is coming off an excellent year at the track when he finished sixth in the June race and second in the August event. Allgaier also led the most laps in the August race so he appears to be getting better. If he can build on his most-recent performance at Iowa, a victory is a real possibility.
Big Name to Avoid
There have been 11 Nationwide races this year, and the No. 54 Joe Gibbs racing team has won six of them. However, Kyle Busch was behind the wheel for all six of those victories, and Drew Herring will in the car this weekend. The developmental driver will obviously have excellent equipment to work with, but he has driven for JGR in three previous Iowa races and has yet to crack the top 10. Bettors are used to counting on the No. 54 team to be in contention for victories, but that probably won’t be the case Saturday.
