2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers to Win: NASCAR betting odds to win the 2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 this Friday, May 11th at Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina have been posted at all the major Las Vegas and best online sportsbooks with Denny Hamlin having been installed as the 5/2 +250 favorite to win the 2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200.
Certain organizations have dominated certain tracks over the years, and Darlington Raceway has been owned by Joe Gibbs Racing lately. JGR drivers have gone to Victory Lane in five of the last six Nationwide events at the track, including two straight. That being said, plenty of other teams will be looking to snap the streak this weekend. After all, Darlington is one of NASCAR’s oldest tracks, and every driver wants to notch a win at “The Lady in Black.”
Last year, Kyle Busch captured the pole and went on to win the race, as well. However, his victory was far from easy. Contenders Carl Edwards and Kasey Kahne combined to lead 67 laps, before pit road issues cost both of them a shot at the win. Even after his toughest competition found trouble, Busch still had to hold off a late charge from his own Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin in order to secure the win.
The Favorites – 2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
There is no question that Denny Hamlin is the favorite to get to Victory Lane this weekend at Darlington. He leads all drivers with a 3.3 average finish at the track, and he has never finished worse than eighth in six career starts. More importantly, Hamlin has three wins and a second-place finish in his last four starts. Without last year’s winner Kyle Busch in the field, Hamlin is a heavy favorite.
After a slow start Kyle Busch Motorsports is finally hitting its stride in the Nationwide Series, and Kurt Busch should keep the momentum going this weekend at Darlington. Busch won in his last start for KBM, and his younger brother Kyle won this race one year ago. With Kurt’s driving ability and Kyle’s input on last year’s winning setup, KBM could be making another trip to Victory Lane.
The Dark Horses – 2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Although normally an underachiever in his Nationwide starts, Kasey Kahne has been stout at Darlington. He finished fourth at the track in 2010 and seventh last season while leading the second-most laps of any driver in the race. Kahne is one of the best in NASCAR at running the high line, and it is no coincidence that the fastest way around Darlington is right up near the wall. Kahne should be a factor this weekend.
His lone start at Darlington in the Nationwide Series came in 2009, and Joey Logano finished 12th in that race. With a couple of Cup seasons under his belt since then, there is good chance he will drastically improve on his 2009 result this weekend. Considering he is driving for the same Joe Gibbs organization that won this race last season and is coming off a win last weekend at Talladega, writing off Logano at Darlington would be a big mistake.
He made his return to Darlington in the Nationwide Series last season after an 11-year layoff, and Elliott Sadler didn’t disappoint. He finished third behind Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin, leading 23 laps on the night. Sadler’s smooth, patient style is a perfect fit for the rough surface and narrow passing lanes. Don’t be surprised if he stays out of trouble all night and has a chance to make some noise in the closing laps.
Sleeper Specials – 2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
All the changes at Turner Motorsports the last two years have clearly taken a toll on Justin Allgaier’s performance on the track. That being said, Friday’s trip to Darlington could be his chance to make some noise. Allgaier has finished in the top five in two of his three starts at the track, including a career-best fourth-place run last season.
Two young drivers making their Darlington debut that could be worth watching are Austin Dillon and Ryan Blaney. Dillon has been amazing in his rookie season, notching six top-10s in eight starts this year. Meanwhile, Blaney finished an impressive seventh in his series debut two races ago. The edge goes to Dillon based on having a few more races under his belt, but both talented youngsters are going to be in Victory Lane in the not-to-distant future.
Drivers to Avoid – 2012 VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
He has been dominant in the Nationwide Series the last two years, but Brad Keselowski can’t seem to figure out Darlington. He has a 19.2 average finish in five Nationwide starts at the track, managing just a single top-10 finish. Keselowski is one of the most accomplished drivers in this weekend’s field, but until he shows he can finish in the top five, it is tough to expect him to win.
Point leader and defending series champ Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has been a consistent threat for more than a year, but he has yet to have a statement run at Darlington. He has a 23.5 average finish in his two starts at the track, and he just doesn’t seem comfortable with the track’s narrow surface. Stenhouse did improve between his first and second start, but for a driver that is used to contending for wins, he probably isn’t going to live up to his usual standards.
