2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500 Odds, Predictions, Betting Tips and Free Picks – Favorites and Lines to Win 2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500 at at Phoenix International Raceway: NASCAR betting odds to win the 2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500 this Sunday, March 4th at the at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona have been posted at all the major Las Vegas and best online sportsbooks with Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch having been installed as the 8/1 favorites to win the 2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500.
After a crazy opening weekend that featured a rain delay, multi-car wrecks, and a two-hour red that resulted from a huge fire caused by bizarre collision between Juan Pablo Montoya’s car and a jet dryer under caution, the Cup Series can finally start to take shape beginning this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Sunday’s race on a more traditional oval track will be a much better indication of what bettors can expect going forward, and the drivers and teams that run well this weekend will likely continue to do so for at least the early portion of the schedule.
Last February, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart battled it out for much of the afternoon, combining to lead 197 of the 312 laps. Stewart appeared to have the upper hand, after a two-tire stop put him well out in front in the closing laps. However, a late caution allowed Gordon to close the gap, and he used his four fresh tires to motor around Stewart and pick up the win. The race also featured an early collision between Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch, which sparked a feud between the two rising stars.
In the fall event, Stewart was again a factor for the win. He led a race-high 160 laps and appeared unstoppable for most of the afternoon. His dominance was finally disrupted when a small adjustment on the second-to-last pit stop hurt the handling of his No. 14. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to let Kasey Kahne get by him to win the race. It was Kahne’s lone win of the 2011 season.
The Favorites – 2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Don’t let his early exit at Daytona fool you. Jimmie Johnson is still one of the safest bets in the Cup Series, especially this weekend at Phoenix. He is a four-time winner at the track, and his 5.4 average finish is by far the best in the series. In 17 career starts at PIR, Johnson has never finished outside the top 15, while piling up 11 top-five efforts. He should definitely be a factor for the win Sunday.
Although he hasn’t won at Phoenix since his rookie year, Tony Stewart came close in both races at the track in 2011. He led more than 200 laps combined between the two events, finishing seventh and third despite leading late in both races. The defending series champ will be looking to close the deal this weekend and get to Victory Lane.
The Dark Horses – 2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
After a rocky beginning to his Phoenix career, Ryan Newman has suddenly become unstoppable at the one-mile oval. He has four straight top-five finishes at PIR, including a win in the spring race in 2010. Until he shows some signs of cooling off, there is no reason to think that Newman won’t keep contending in the dessert.
He has been a bit boom or bust at Phoenix lately, but Jeff Gordon always seems to run better in the spring race. He won the race in 2007, finished second in the 2010 event, and he is the defending winner of this weekend’s race. With the way he has been running at PIR this time of year, it is tough to rule out another trip to Victory Lane.

He changed teams in the offseason and switched to a part-time schedule, but Mark Martin has been so good at Phoenix over the years that it is tough to count him out. In addition to winning at the track in 2009, he has compiled a 9.5 average finish at PIR since the start of the 1999 season. Martin hasn’t finished outside the top 20 during the stretch, and he could be a steal for bettors this weekend.
One of the biggest offseason moves was A.J. Allmendinger signing with Penske Racing. For a young driver like Allmendinger, joining a championship-caliber organization could take his career to the next level. It could also put him in Victory Lane for the first time in his career, and it could happen as early as Sunday. Allmendinger finished ninth and sixth at Phoenix last season, and with better equipment, a win is a real possibility.
Driver to Avoid – 2012 Subway Fresh Fit 500 Vegas Odds, Expert Predictions and Free Picks
For those thinking that Matt Kenseth could make it back-to-back wins to open the 2012 season, they might want to think again. He has gone eight straight starts at the Phoenix without a top-five finish and has just two top-10 finishes during the stretch. Kenseth did win at PIR back in 2002, but he hasn’t really been close to getting back to Victory Lane, especially in recent years.
