2012 Sam’s Town 300 Odds, Predictions, Betting Tips and Free Picks – Favorites and Lines to Win the Sam’s Town 300: Formally a flat track where passing was difficult, Las Vegas Motor Speedway has undergone several changes to its layout over the years. LVMS is still a 1.5-mile track, but progressive banking has increased the speed and created multiple grooves. As a result, recent races have featured some more exciting finishes and some memorable wrecks. The changes have also lifted Jimmie Johnson’s stranglehold on Victory Lane. Johnson won three straight races at the track from 2005 to 2007, but he has just one win in four starts on the new surface.
Last year, Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards battled for the lead most of the afternoon, combining to lead 152 of the 200 laps. However, Busch wrecked late in the race and Edwards had to make an extra stop for fuel. The biggest beneficiary was Mark Martin, who inherited the lead on the final lap to pick up the win. Ironically, it was the only lap Martin led all afternoon.
The Favorites – 2012 Sam’s Town 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Since the start of the 1999 season, Mark Martin has made five starts at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He has four wins and a second-place run in those starts, including a win in last year’s race. This weekend, Martin will be driving the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota that has won more races in the Nationwide Series the last three years than any other car. This looks like a match made in heaven.
While several big names like Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick have scaled back their Nationwide schedules, Brad Keselowski is still running full force. More importantly, he has posted back-to-back top-five finishes at Las Vegas. Keselowski emerged as a dominant forced at the 1.5-mile tracks last season, winning at four different tracks with the layout in the second half of last year. If the momentum carries over, he could be tough to beat Saturday.
The Dark Horses – 2012 Sam’s Town 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
In three starts at Las Vegas, Justin Allgaier has never finished outside the top 10. Not to mention the fact that he has improved in all three of his starts. Allgaier finished eighth in his track debut, seventh in 2010, and a career-best second last season. If the trend continues, the next step is a trip to Victory Lane.
He has been a little up and down at Las Vegas in the Nationwide Series, but Kasey Kahne can definitely compete for the win Saturday. In five starts at the track, he has a win and a second-place finish. Kahne could end up wrecking, but if he stays in one piece, he has proven he can get to Victory Lane.
Sleeper Specials – 2012 Sam’s Town 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Unless he can find some sponsorship, Trevor Bayne may not be behind the wheel in the Nationwide Series for a complete season. However, he is in the field this weekend, and he is a threat to win. In two starts at Las Vegas, Bayne has finished sixth and fifth. He will be looking to attract sponsorship, and a win would certainly do that.
Rookie Austin Dillon has been tabbed for success from an early age. Now that he is in the Nationwide Series, he is quickly living up to the hype. Dillon has opened the 2012 season with top-five finishes in the first two races of the season. It is becoming clear that it won’t be long before the youngster to start winning races.
Driver to Avoid – 2012 Sam’s Town 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
He has won more races in the Nationwide Series than any driver in history, but Kyle Busch has been mediocre at best at Vegas. In eight career starts, he has just a single top-10 finish. Busch has won at the track in the Cup Series, but for some reason, the king of the Nationwide Series has been unable to conquer Vegas.
