2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Odds, Predictions, Betting Tips and Free Picks – Favorites and Lines to Win the 2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts 300: The Nationwide Series gets back to action this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. Seven of the last eight Nationwide races at the track have been won by either Kyle Busch or Carl Edwards, but the good news for the rest of the competition is that neither will be in the field Friday night. As a result, the race should be a little more wide open than it has been in several years, and there could even be a surprise name in Victory Lane.
Last April, Edwards put a hurting on the competition. He started on the pole and led 169 of the 200 laps on his way to the win. Busch was the only driver that could keep up with Edwards, but he was taken out by a lap car while chasing down Edwards. With Busch out of the picture, Edwards overpowered the rest of the field and cruised to the win.
Edwards appeared to be on his way to a season sweep in the fall event, leading 157 of the 200 laps. However, a poor pit strategy put him back in the field late in the race, and he only worked his way to third by the time the checkered flag flew. Trevor Bayne was the beneficiary, and despite leading just six laps, he went to Victory Lane.
The Favorites – 2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
He is coming off a win at Auto Club Speedway, and Joey Logano could make it back-to-back victories this weekend when the series visits Texas. He has four straight finishes of eighth or better at the track, including three finishes of fourth or better. In seven career Nationwide starts, he has finished outside the top 12 only once.
Although he has never won at Texas, Brad Keselowski does have seven straight finishes of seventh or better at the track. More importantly, he has six straight finishes of fifth or better. Keselowski finished a career-best second at the track last April, and with the last eight winners at the track not in the field, he could jump on the opportunity.
The No. 18 team has won five times at Texas in the Nationwide Series in the last eight races, and this weekend, Denny Hamlin will be behind the wheel. He finished second at the track last fall, and has three finishes of third or better in his last four starts at the track in the series. Hamlin is a two-time winner at Texas in the Cup Series, and he could add a Nationwide win to his resume Friday night.
The Dark Horses – 2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
With two wins under his belt this season, Elliott Sadler has plenty of momentum on his side as he rolls into Texas. He finished fifth and ninth and the track last season and has four top-10 finishes in his last five starts at the track. Sadler has a pair of top-five finishes at Texas during the stretch, and with as well as he has been running in 2012, he could add another win to his total.
He doesn’t make many Nationwide starts these days, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a name that commands attention when he is on the entry list. Junior is a former winner at Texas, and he has two top-10s in three sporadic starts over the past 20 races. He recently made some crew chief changes at JR Motorsports in an attempt to jumpstart his organization, and what better way to do that than by picking up a win?
Sleeper Specials – 2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
After winning the Nationwide title last season, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is looking like a frontrunner again in 2012. He already has one victory this year, and he has been one of the best series regulars at the 1.5-mile tracks dating back to last season. Stenhouse has improved in his last three starts at Texas, finishing eighth and sixth in his two starts in 2011. With a weaker field, he could knock off the big names and grab a win.
Paul Menard will get his chance to drive the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing entry this weekend, and it could be a match made in heaven. He has always been solid at Texas, finishing in the top 10 in five straight starts at the track. Menard finished a career-best third in his most recent start at the track, and with RCR equipment, he could have what he needs to get to Victory Lane.
Drivers to Avoid – 2012 O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
In two career Nationwide starts at Texas, Kurt Busch has a win and an eighth-place finish. However, he will be driving for his younger brother’s new race team this weekend, and the early results haven’t been pretty for Kyle Busch Motorsports. Kurt could have a tough time duplicating his past success at Texas while KBM continues to work out the kinks.
Although he is a former winner at Texas, Kasey Kahne has had no luck at the track in recent years. He has gone seven straight starts without a top-10 finish, and he has finished outside the top 20 in five of his starts during the stretch. Kahne may be a big name, but his results have been far from impressive at Texas.
