The rookie is coming off a strong third-place run at a Chicagoland track that is considered very similar to Kentucky, and it is clear that Dillon has an excellent feel for the 1.5-mile ovals at this stage in his career.
He made his Kentucky debut in the Nationwide Series in June, and Kurt Busch certainly didn’t disappoint. On a night when Austin Dillon basically controlled the race, Busch was the next best car on the track, finishing second. His Kyle Busch Motorsports team has been looking stronger in recent weeks, and Kurt just might have the extra muscle he needs to get to Victory Lane this time around.

In three starts at Kentucky, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has never finished outside the top 10. Granted, he has never finished in the top five either, but that could easily change this weekend. After all, Stenhouse is coming off a win at Chicagoland, and the Kentucky shares the same 1.5-mile layout. Roush Fenway Racing has traditionally dominated the 1.5-mile ovals in the Nationwide Series, and with five wins under his belt in 2012, Stenhouse could add another victory to his impressive total.
Although he has never won at Kentucky, Elliott Sadler has delivered two solid finishes in his two starts at the track. He finished fifth in his track debut last year, and he finished ninth when the series visited Kentucky in June. Perhaps most importantly, Sadler has been at his best this season when his back is against the wall. Having just lost the top spot in the standings last weekend, he might just have the extra motivation he needs to get back to Victory Lane and back atop the standings.

The fact that he hasn’t been good ahead to be a part of the championship battle has kept Michael Annett out of the spotlight, but the young driver is quietly having a career year. Not to mention that Kentucky has always been one of his best tracks. In four starts, he has finished seventh or better three times, including a career-best fourth-place run earlier this season. Don’t be surprised if Annett comes into his own a bit with a big win at Kentucky.
Two weeks ago at Richmond, Kevin Harvick put the No. 33 Chevrolet in Victory Lane. This weekend at Kentucky, Brendan Gaughan will get his turn behind the wheel of the No. 33. In two previous starts at the track, he has a pair of fourth-place finishes. Driving one of the stronger cars in the series, Gaughan might just have what it takes to turn one of his top-five finishes into an upset victory.
Big Name to Avoid – 2012 Kentucky 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
The No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing has won six races in 2012, but another win could be tough to come by this weekend with rookie Drew Herring behind the wheel. He will be making his Nationwide Series debut for the year at Kentucky, and his lack of experience will definitely play a factor. Herring did finish 12th or better in all four of his Nationwide starts last year, but he has never had a top-five finish in the series. Herring is a talented young driver and will be behind the wheel of a great car, but he isn’t ready to win races just yet.
