2012 Dollar General 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Sleepers

2012 Dollar General 300 Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Dollar General 300 Favorites and Sleepers to Win at Charlotte Motor Speedway: Charlotte Motor Speedway is located in the heart of NASCAR country, and not surprisingly, there are a lot of sponsors that want to get to Victory Lane at the 1.5-mile track. As a result, the Nationwide races at Charlotte tend to be loaded with big names, and Friday night’s Dollar General 300 is no exception. In fact, there are actually three Cup drivers currently in the Chase that will in the Nationwide field, including championship leader Brad Keselowski. In short, this is a loaded field, and it is going to take a special performance if someone unexpected is going to sneak into Victory Lane.

Last fall, Brad Keselowski had the car to beat all night. He led 119 of the 200 laps and was on the verge of running away with the race when a cut tire sent him spinning across the track. He was able to avoid major damage, but he was no longer in contention for the win. With the dominant car out of the picture, the race boiled down to a duel between Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch. Busch made a hard charge at Edwards on the final lap, but Edwards was able to hold him off and secure the win.

Earlier this year, Brad Keselowski got his revenge, turning the tables on Kevin Harvick. Harvick led a race-high 92 laps, but Keselowski came on strong in the second half of the race. He led 67 laps in his own right, and while Harvick faded to fourth, Keselowski held off Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch to pick up the win.

The Favorites – 2012 Dollar General 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

His numbers at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series are ridiculous, and Kyle Busch will try to add to his resume this weekend. He has a 6.4 average finish in 18 starts at the track and has finished in the top five in 13 of those starts. More importantly, Busch is a six-time winner at Charlotte in the series, and he has finished third or better 12 different times, including in each of his last three starts. He is basically a lock to be in contention for the win.

With a win at Charlotte earlier this year, there is no doubt that Brad Keselowski has figured out the 1.5-mile track. He has now finished eighth or better in his last nine starts at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series, and in his last five starts, he has two wins and a second-place finish. Keselowski will try for the season sweep at the track this weekend, and he has good chance of pulling it off.

In eight career starts at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series, Joey Logano has a rock solid 9.5 average finish and has finished outside the top 15 only once. He has also finished sixth or better in four of those eight starts. Granted, Logano has never won at Charlotte, but with a series-leading seven victories in 2012 in just 17 starts, he has to be considered a serious threat whenever he gets behind the wheel.

The Dark Horses – 2012 Dollar General 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Although he is still searching for his first win at Charlotte in the Nationwide Series, Kevin Harvick is no stranger to finishing near the front at the 1.5-mile track. In 17 career starts, he has finished 12th or better 13 times. Harvick actually has just two top-five finishes at Charlotte in his career, but since one of those was a fourth-place finish earlier this year when he led the most laps, a big performance could be on tap this weekend when the series returns to the track.

Charlotte was a trouble spot for Denny Hamlin early in his career, but he has turned things around recently. He has finished in the top five in his last three starts at the track, including back-to-back second-place finishes. After settling for runner-up in his last two trips to Charlotte, Hamlin will likely be that much more motivated to get over the hump this weekend and score his first win at the track.

Sleeper Specials – 2012 Dollar General 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

Since returning to the Nationwide Series full time last year, Elliott Sadler has been dialed in at Charlotte. He has finished in the top 10 in his last three starts at the track, compiling a 6.3 average finish during the stretch. Sadler also finished fourth at Charlotte last fall and fifth earlier this year. He doesn’t have to improve much in order to pull off an upset this weekend.

Justin Allgaier is a bit of a longshot, but he has been very consistent at Charlotte. He has finished in the top 15 in his last seven starts at the track and has finished as high as third. Allgaier has also finished in the top 10 in four of his last five Charlotte starts, including two straight. He always seems to have a competitive car at the track, and with a break here or there, he could score a surprise victory.

Big Name to Avoid – 2012 Dollar General 300 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

A rough patch has knocked Sam Hornish Jr. out of title contention, and he probably won’t be gaining any ground this weekend. He does have three straight top-15 finishes at Charlotte, but he has never finished higher than ninth at the track. In a field loaded with Cup drivers, Hornish is the series regular that is likely to see his finish suffer the most.
