2011 Zippo 200 at the Glen Odds, Predictions, Betting Tips and Free Picks – Favorites and Lines to Win the Zippo 200: NASCAR betting odds to win the 2011 Zippo 200 this Saturday, August 13th at at the Glen in Watkins Glen, New York have been posted at all the major Las Vegas and best online sportsbooks and the online bookies with Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards having been installed as the +350 favorite to win the 2011 Zippo 200.
A trip to a road course in the Nationwide Series usually means a majority of the Cup drivers are staying away. That is not the case this weekend as both series visit Watkins Glen International on the same weekend. As a result, there are even more big names in the field than usual, creating even more potential options for bettors and even more excitement for fans.
Last season, Marcos Ambrose emerged from a loaded field with a dominating victory. Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Joey Logano combined to lead 22 laps early on, but there was no stopping Ambrose down the stretch. He led the other 60 laps on the afternoon, and pulled away from Logano in the closing laps. Cup drivers claimed the top five spots with road course ringer Ron Fellows coming home sixth. It was the third straight win at the track for Ambrose, but before bettors get any ideas, they should know that he won’t be trying for a four-peat this weekend.
The Favorites – 2011 Zippo 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks
Brad Keselowski’s broken ankle could be a plus for bettors as Kurt Busch prepares to sub for his injured Penske Racing teammate. Busch has made two starts at Watkins Glen in the Nationwide Series, winning in 2006 and finishing third in 2007. He is establishing himself as one of the road racing stars in NASCAR, and a surprise start could turn into a trip to Victory Lane.
Although he has never won at Watkins Glen in the Nationwide Series, Kyle Busch is a former winner at the track in the Cup Series. He has also come close to winning at the Nationwide level, finishing in the top five in three straight starts. Busch has finished second twice during that stretch, and it could be a family affair at the front of the field this weekend.
Known for his smooth driving style, road course ringer Ron Fellows has had more success than any other road racer turned Cup driver. He is a former winner at Watkins Glen at the Nationwide level, and he has finished fifth and sixth in his last two starts at the track. Fellows only races a few times each year, but he is a threat to win whenever he climbs behind the wheel at a road course.
The Dark Horses – 2011 Zippo 200 Lines, Preview and Expert Picks
In two of his three Nationwide starts at Watkins Glen, Joey Logano has finished in the top 10. Last season, he had a breakout performance at the track, finishing second and leading eight laps. Marcos Ambrose was the only driver that Logano couldn’t catch in 2010, and with the defending winner deciding to skip the race, Logano has to be considered a contender this weekend.
It isn’t often that Jimmie Johnson makes an appearance in the Nationwide Series, but he will be in this weekend’s field. Johnson isn’t particularly great at Watkins Glen, but there is no question that the five-time champion’s presence alone will intimidate some of the younger drivers. Johnson isn’t a road course ace, but he is a good enough all-around driver to get to Victory Lane if a few breaks go his way.
Sleepers Specials – 2011 Zippo 200 Vegas Odds, Expert Predictions and Free Picks
Although Elliott Sadler doesn’t have a lot of road racing experience at the Nationwide level, he was always one of the most consistent road racers in the Cup Series. Granted, there isn’t necessarily a trend between the two, but for a driver that has been at or near the top of the standings all season, the Cup Series success is at least enough to consider him a sleeper.
Big Names to Avoid – 2011 Zippo 200 Betting Odds, Predictions and Free NASCAR Picks
For whatever reason, Carl Edwards has been awful in a majority of his Nationwide starts at Watkins Glen. In four of his last five starts at the track, he has finished 25-th or worse. Edwards is one of the best at the track in the Cup Series and one of the best Nationwide drivers in general, but the numbers don’t lie. He just hasn’t gotten the job done at this track in this series.
He is one of the best young drivers in the series, but Justin Allgaier still needs to perfect his road racing skills. He has finished outside the top 15 in both starts at Watkins Glen, including a 34th-place finish last season. Allgaier looked good at the road races earlier this year, but there will be more Cup drivers in this weekend’s field than he had to face in his previous starts in 2011.
