While the Cup Series head to Michigan, the Nationwide teams prepare for the second road race in as many week when they head north of the border to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The massive 2.71-mile, 14-turn road course has created some unforgettable moments despite being part of the schedule for just four years. From Robby Gordon’s showdown with Marcos Ambrose to Ron Fellows winning in his home country, there has been no shortage of excitement at the road course.

Last year, the final laps at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve were action packed. Carl Edwards and Marcos Ambrose dominated most of the afternoon, but both fell victim to late issues that took them out of contention. With the door open, Jacques Villeneuve, Max Papis and Boris Said all exchanged the lead in the closing laps. Papis grabbed the lead heading to the final corner, but Said slipped by to edge Papis to the line. It was Said’s first career win at the Nationwide level.

The Favorites – 2011 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Odds, Predictions and Free Picks

In four starts at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Carl Edwards has picked up a pair of top-10 finishes, including a win in 2009. More importantly, he is by far the most proven driver in the series in the field. Edwards isn’t the most polished road racer, but in terms of talent behind the wheel of a stock car, he is second to none this weekend.

Marcos Ambrose has had a car capable of winning in all four of his starts at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. However, he has yet to cash in and win a race at the track. That being said, he has finished seventh or better in three of his four starts, including two finishes of third or better. Last season, Ambrose led the most laps at the track before having issues late. He will be a contender this weekend.

Canadian Ron Fellows has had more success than any other road course ringer in NASCAR history, winning four times in the Nationwide Series. One of those victories came at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as one of two top-five finishes for Fellows in four career starts. His ability to run smooth laps and conserve his breaks allows him to always be at his best in the closing laps.

Defending race winner Boris Said has always been one of the better road ringers in NASCAR, but until last season, he hadn’t won a race. He changed all that with a last lap pass at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 2010, and Said will be looking to make it two in a row at the track this weekend. He can be tough on his equipment because of his aggressive driving style, but no one wants to win more than Said.

Sleepers Specials – 2011 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Vegas Odds, Expert Predictions and Free Picks

His last two starts at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve have been memorable ones, and Jacques Villeneuve may finally have the equipment he needs to win at the track. He finished fourth at the road course in 2009 and third last year, and this weekend, he will be driving the Penske Racing No. 22. Brad Keselowski has shown just how well the organization is running lately, and Villeneuve has more than enough road course experience to get the job done.

Although he doesn’t have much experience at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Scott Speed does have an extensive background in road racing. He also has the advantage of driving the Kevin Harvick Inc. No. 33 machine this weekend. Speed will get a chance to show his stuff in some top of the line equipment, which makes him worth keeping an eye on.

Big Names to Avoid – 2011 NAPA Auto Parts 200 Betting Odds, Predictions and Free NASCAR Picks

Plain and simple, Jason Leffler is not a road racer. In four starts at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he has three finishes outside the top 20. Leffler has accomplished a lot in the Nationwide Series, but he is never going to be mistaken for a road course ringer.

She is apparently running full-time in the Nationwide Series next season, but Danica Patrick has a lot to prove behind the wheel of a stock car. She will have some road racing experience from her IRL days, but there is just no comparing an open-wheel car yo a stock car. It will take some time for Patrick to make the adjustment.
