2011 LENOX Industrial Tools 301Expert Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs – How to Bet on the LENOX Industrial Tools 301: Thanks to its tight corners and lack of banking New Hampshire Motor Speedway is one of the tougher tracks for drivers to get a feel for. As a result, picking the winner at the 1.0-mile track is no easy task either. Rain showers can often throw a wrench into the mix as well, shortening races and stopping them abruptly while the running order is shuffled. While the favorites might not always win at New Hampshire, bettors do have an opportunity to take advantage of the track’s quirks to grab an upset victory.
The consistently underrated Ryan Newman is one driver that could deliver for bettors this weekend. He is a two-time winner at New Hampshire, and has the fourth-best average finish among active drivers. Newman has finished outside the top 15 only four times in 18 starts, notching 12 top-10 finishes. Only Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have been more consistent at the track, making Newman a steal at his current 40/1 odds.
Newman has been dialed in at the “Magic Mile” since joining Stewart-Haas Racing as well. He has finished eight or better in his last three starts at the track, including a sixth-place run last summer. Newman has always been comfortable at the flat tracks and the short tracks, and he has been a consistent top-10 driver all year. The combination of oast success and momentum could lead to a victory for Newman.
Another driver that could be poised to spring the upset is A.J. Allmendinger. His career numbers at New Hampshire are terrible, but his results in 2010 hint to a serious turnaround. He delivered a career-best 10th-place finish in the summer race one year ago and followed it up with a 12th-place run in the fall. Allmendinger has 75/1 odds to win this weekend thanks to five finishes of 25th or worse at NHMS, but bettors could be getting a serious steal based on how well he ran last year.
In addition, Allmendinger has always been at his best at the flat tracks thanks in part to his road course experience. He has already posted top-10 finishes at Pocono, Indianapolis, Phoenix and Martinsville in his career, along with New Hampshire. Allmendinger is constantly improving, and he could become the next driver to win his first career Cup race this season, and it could happen this weekend.
