2011 John Deere Dealers of Iowa 250 Vegas Odds, Free Picks and Predictions – Favorites and Drivers to Bet On: While the Cup Series is busy hosting its annual All-Star Race, the Nationwide Series heads to one of the newest tracks on the schedule – Iowa Speedway. Designed by former driver Rusty Wallace, the track combines the best elements of short track and intermediate track racing. Iowa is just a bit bigger than Richmond International Raceway, but its wide surface allows more two and even three-wide racing. For bettors, this weekend’s race could be a great chance to win big. With many of the big names choosing to skip the Nationwide race, the odds of a surprise winner go up dramatically.
Last year, Kyle Busch made sure there were no surprises. He led 209 of the 250 laps on his way to his first win at Iowa. Pole-sitter Trevor Bayne and Kevin Harvick were his primary competition, and the two were the only other drivers to lead a lap on the afternoon. Although Busch and Harvick finished first and second, six of the top-10 spots were claimed by non-Cup drivers.
The Favorites
Carl Edwards has a pair of top-10 finishes in two starts at Iowa, but more importantly, he is the most-talented driver in the field this weekend. With a majority of the Cup regular opting to skip the race, Edwards is the driver to beat. As well as he has been running in 2011, there is an excellent chance he will get his first win at Iowa this weekend.
He won the inaugural event at Iowa in 2009, and Brad Keselowski went on to finish fourth in last year’s event. With a 2.5 average finish at the track, Keselowski is more than worthy of being on the short list of favorites. He has a definite shot of becoming the track’s first two-time winner.
The Dark Horses
The Nationwide regular with the best chance to pull the upset is Jason Leffler. He has finished third in both races at Iowa, making him one of only three drivers with top-five finishes in both career events held at the track. Leffler clearly likes the layout of Iowa, and a win this weekend wouldn’t be out of the question.
It is time to recognize the strong year that Elliott Sadler is having. He currently sits atop the standings, and he has tallied six top-five finishes. Sadler’s move to Kevin Harvick Inc. during the offseason appears to be paying off. It is only a matter of time before he starts winning races.
Sleepers Specials
He has been quiet in 2011, but Steve Wallace has a chance to breakout this weekend. He finished sixth last season at Iowa, and he is one driver that should benefit from a weaker field. More importantly, he should have a bit of an edge in terms of knowledge of the track. After all, his father designed the place.
Steady improvement has been the name of the game for Justin Allgaier at Iowa. After finishing 15th in his track debut, he finished eighth last season. If the trend continues, Allgaier should be in the mix for a top-five finish this weekend. As long as he is running near the front, he has a chance to make something happen at the end and pick up a win.
Big Names to Avoid
There is no question that Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has improved leaps and bounds in 2011, but he may still be a year or two away from contending at Iowa. He has yet to crack the top-10 in two starts at the track and has compiled a mediocre 18.0 average finish. Even with the success of the Ford teams this year, a win from Stenhouse Jr. seems very unlikely this weekend.
Normally one of the best Nationwide regulars at the non-companion races, Mike Bliss has struggled at Iowa. He has failed finish in the top-10 in two starts at the track, and Bliss is a long way from contending for a win at the track.
