2011 Hollywood Casino 400 Expert Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs – How to Bet on the 2011 Hollywood Casino 400: The Chase hasn’t produced a lot of upsets yet as Kurt Busch made the playoff drivers a perfect three-for-three with his win at Dover. That being said, the series shifts to Kansas this weekend, and the 1.5-mile track has produced some surprise winners in the past. From Joe Nemechek outdueling Ricky Rudd to veteran Mark Martin stealing the show, Kansas has been one track where Chase drivers haven’t always had the edge in the past. Bettors banking on the trend continuing and looking for some likely upset candidates this weekend should consider David Ragan and A.J. Allmendinger.
Ragan has already been the Cinderella story once in 2011, winning his first career Cup race with a victory at Daytona in July. More importantly, he has been solid at Kansas in the past. Ragan has finished 16th or better in four of his five starts, including a 13th-place finish earlier this year. He has finished as high as eighth at Kansas, and there is evidence to suggest he can improve on that result this weekend.
Looking at his performance at 1.5-mile tracks this season, it becomes clear that Ragan has figured out the layout. He has finished seventh at Texas, second at Charlotte, eighth at Kentucky, and 11th at Chicagoland earlier in the Chase. He is also driving for a Roush Fenway Racing organization that has put three drivers in the top 10 in each of the last two Kansas races and put Greg Biffle in Victory Lane at the track last fall. Ragan has the right equipment and is trending in the right direction at tracks last Kansas. All the makings for an upset are in place.
He hasn’t won a race in 2011, but Allmendinger could be the next driver to join the list of first-time winners. After all, five drivers have accomplished the feat this season, and he is ahead of all five of them in the current series standings. Not to mention the fact that Allmendinger has finished in the top 10 in two of his four starts at Kansas Speedway and has had a habit of running his best in the later part of the season.
The strong finishes have been there for Allmendinger at 1.5-mile tracks this season. A ninth-place run at Las Vegas, fifth-place run at Charlotte and a 10th-place effort at Atlanta are among his more notable results. He is driving for a Richard Petty Motorsports team that has transformed Marcos Ambrose into a legitimate top-15 driver at 1.5-mile tracks and has put Kasey Kahne in Victory Lane at tracks like Charlotte, Atlanta and Texas in the past. It is really a matter of when and not if Allmendinger will win a race, and it could happen this weekend at Kansas.
