2011 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen Breakdown – Beating the Odds: Who to Bet On

2011 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen Betting Odds Breakdown – Who to Bet On and How to Win Money on the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen: Coming into the 2011 season, Trevor Bayne, David Ragan, Regan Smith, Paul Menard and Brad Keselowski had combined for just a single Cup Series win. This year, the same five drivers have won six times. Needless to say, there have been more than one or two surprises. With upsets becoming all the rage, bettors have to be on the lookout for potential sleeper picks each and every week. There has been  no such thing as a sure thing this year, making longshot bets a must.

Headlining the list of bargains is Denny Hamlin. Granted, he has never won a road course race, but his 22/1 odds to win Sunday make him a steal. After all, he has finished in the top 10 in four of his five starts at Watkins Glen, including a second-place effort. Bettors are getting a proven winner at the Cup level with a solid history at The Glen, and they are getting him with favorable odds. There is a lot to love about Hamlin this weekend.

Although he has been unreliable throughout his career, Martin Truex Jr. could give bettors something to cheer about, especially at his current 80/1 odds. He has finished in the top 15 in three of his last four starts at Watkins Glen, including two finishes of sixth or better. Truex Jr. had a car capable of winning at the first road course race of the season until getting wrecked late, and considering he has even better career numbers at The Glen, he is worth a look.

At his current 40/1 odds, A.J. Allmendinger is being totally disrespected. He has never finished outside the top 15 at Watkins Glen, and he actually averages a top-10 finish at the track. Last season, Allmendinger finished a career-best fourth at the track. Four drivers have won their first career race this season, and Allmendinger is more than capable of becoming the fifth this weekend. If that happens, the payout will have bettors smiling.

Making a habit of betting against Jimmie Johnson isn’t recommended, but at his 9/1 odds to win this weekend, bettors should pass on the five-time champ. He has never won at Watkins Glen, and he has just three top-five finishes in nine starts. Johnson has been unable to crack the top 10 in his last two attempts at the track, and as good as he is behind the wheel, he isn’t worth a look from bettors at his current odds.

No driver has more road course wins in their career than Jeff Gordon, but he hasn’t exactly been on his game at Watkins Glen lately. His last win at the track came in 2001, and he hasn’t finished in the top five since his last trip to Victory Lane. Gordon is getting 9/1 odds, mainly because of his reputation, but he isn’t the same driver he was a decade ago when he was dominating at the track.

He lost his job before the start of the 2011 season, but Scott Speed has a ride this weekend and a background in road racing. He is definitely a longshot as his 250/1 odds will suggest, but just about anything can happen at a road course. Speed will have to shake off some rust, but in a season that has been highlighted by unexpected wins, Speed could be the next driver to spring a major upset.
