2011 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs

2011 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Expert Picks: Betting on Underdogs for Big Payoffs – How to Bet on the 2011 Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400: Fuel mileage has definitely had an impact in 2011, producing some unexpected winners and costing some big names victories that appeared to be in the bag. The surprises could continue this weekend at Michigan International Speedway – a 2.0-mile track with a history of long green flag runs. Depending on when the final caution falls, fuel mileage could once again be a factor. If that happens, bettors might have a chance to score big with a wildcard pick.

One option to consider is Brian Vickers. He enters the race mired in a terrible slump and currently has 35/1 odds to win. While those odds may seem appropriate for a driver sitting 26th in the standings, a look at his past results at Michigan reveals Vickers is a potential steal for bettors this weekend. Not to mention the fact that his slump didn’ seem to affect him when he finished eighth at Auto Club Speedway earlier this year – the other 2.0-mile track on the schedule.

Of course, there is also the fact that he won at MIS in his last start at the track. Granted, that start came in August of 2009, and he missed both races at Michigan a year ago while dealing with a medical issue. That being said, he is a former winner at the track, and his victory was his fifth straight top-five finish at MIS.  Despite the one-year layoff, Vickers still brings an impressive streak with him to the track this weekend.

The other driver flying under the radar of oddsmakers that should be getting heavy consideration is David Ragan. His record at Michigan is solid but not spectacular, and he has finished as high as third. Ragan’s driving style seems to fit the 2.0-mile tracks as well. Outside of the superspeedways, his 17.3 average finish at Auto Club Speedway and 17.5 average finish at Michigan are his two best marks at any track.

Looking beyond the numbers, Ragan’s biggest selling points this weekend are momentum and equipment. He is averaging a top-10 finish over the past month, and he finished a career-best second at Charlotte at the end of May. More importantly, his Roush Fenway Racing organization has dominated at Michigan. His three teammates are all two-time winners at MIS, and Ragan will have the same equipment at his disposal this weekend. At 30/1 odds, bettors could hit it big with a hot driver in an ideal situation.
