2011 Good Sam RV Insurance 500 – Post-Practice Top 5
- Carl Edwards: He signed a new contract with Roush Fenway Racing, and Edwards might celebrate the deal with a trip to Victory Lane. He posted the fourth-fastest lap in the first practice Friday and the 10th fastest lap in Happy Hour. Edwards is a two-time winner at Pocono, and as long as he doesn’t blow a motor like he did in June, he could grab a third this weekend.
- Ryan Newman: After topping the charts in the opening practice Friday, Newman recorded the seventh-fastest lap in the final session. The former winner at Pocono has been rock solid at the track for years, and he may have a car capable or returning to Victory Lane. Newman won at New Hampshire a few weeks ago, and flat tracks have always been kind to him.
- Jimmie Johnson: He posted the sixth-fastest lap in the opening practice Friday, and he also recorded the best 10-lap average speed in Happy Hour. The well-balanced car should give Johnson a real shot at his third career win at Pocono. He never really runs poorly at the track, and he finished a strong fourth in the June event.
- Kurt Busch: Busch picked up right where he left off in June, putting down the second-fastest lap in the opening practice. He finished second when the series visited Pocono a few months ago, and he has finished either first or second at the track seven times in his career. Based on the practice times and his history, Busch should be a real threat to win this weekend.
- Mark Martin: By practice times alone, Martin should be the favorite to win this weekend. He ranked fifth in the opening session and had the second-fastest lap in Happy Hour. Martin has had a lot of solid finishes at Pocono in his career, but he has never broken through and won. The concerning factor is that he has really struggled in 2011. However, he could deliver a nice payday for bettors if he backs up his practice times.

- Brad Keselowski: Despite fracturing his ankle earlier in the week and spinning in Happy Hour, Keselowski was consistently in the top 10 on the speed charts in both sessions. His Penske Racing teammate Kurt Busch is one of the best in the series at Pocono, and it appears the magic is rubbing off on Keselowski. He may be limping off the track, but he is running just fine on it.
