2011 Crown Royal 400 Odds, Predictions, Free Picks and Preview – Favorites and Drivers Lines to Win: Vegas odds to win the 2011 Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Speedway this Saturday, April 30th in this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series are now posted on NSAwins.com and are posted below. Here is this week’s race preview…
Changes to the layout of Bristol Motor Speedway have made Richmond International Raceway arguably the premier short track in NASCAR. Nicknamed “The Action Track” by fans, RIR is known for high speeds, bump and runs, and short tempers. As the laps wind down, the racing will only get more physical, making winning at the track no easy task.
In the May event last season, Kyle Busch delivered a dominating performance. He started on the pole, led the most laps, and held off Jeff Gordon to get to Victory Lane. Busch and Gordon had the two best cars all night, combining to lad 370 of the 400 laps. Richard Childress Racing teammates Kevin Havick and Jeff Burton made late charges to finish third and fourth, but there was no stopping Busch.
In the fall event, Busch’s attempt at a season sweep came up one spot short. He finished second to his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin, who led 251 of the 400 laps on his way to a win at his home track. The 1-2 finish for the JGR drivers was part of a dominating evening for the organization. Joey Logano finished fourth to put all three team cars in the top-five.
2011 Crown Royal 400: The Favorites
His near sweep at Richmond in 2010 continued a trend of Richmond dominance for Kyle Busch. He has 10 career top-five finishes in 12 starts at the track, including a pair of victories. Busch’s 5.3 average finish at RIR is by far the best in the series, and there is an excellent chance he will have a shot at the win this weekend.
Virginia native Denny Hamlin has given his home state fans plenty to cheer about at Richmond lately. He has won two of the last three races at the track, and he has five top-three finishes in 10 starts. Hamlin’s 8.0 average finish at the track is the second-best mark among active drivers.
Kevin Harvick has been this year’s big winner, and he could add to his total this weekend at Richmond. He has finished in the top-10 in 11 of his last 12 starts at the track, including a trip to Victory Lane. Last May, Harvick’s late charge to win came up just a bit short, but he could easily improve on his third-place finish from a year ago.
2011 Crown Royal 400: The Dark Horses
Former Richmond winner Clint Bowyer has been the model of consistency at Richmond in his career. He has averaged a top-10 finish at the track in 10 career starts, and he has never finished outside the top-20. Bowyer has finished sixth in two of his last three starts at RIR, and he could easily make the jump back to Victory Lane this weekend.
Richmond has never been Carl Edwards’ best track, but he showed some serious signs of life last year. He finished in the top-10 in both races, including a career-best fifth-place run in the fall. Edwards is a proven winner at the Cup level, and it is only a matter of time before he can conquer Richmond.
2011 Crown Royal 400: Sleepers Specials
In four starts at Richmond, Marcos Ambrose has compiled an 11.8 average finish. He has finished 11th or better in three of his four starts, and last season, he notched a pair of top-10 finishes. Ambrose finished an impressive fifth at the track last fall, and he would provide a big pay day if he can pull the upset this weekend.
He finally has some momentum on his side after a solid run at Talladega, and Joey Logano has a history of success at Richmond. He has finished in the top-20 in all four starts at the short track, including a fourth-place run last fall. Joe Gibbs Racing is the premier organization at RIR, and Logano definitely benefits.
2011 Crown Royal 400: Big Names to Avoid
Although he reeled off four straight top-five finishes at Richmond from 2008 to 2009, Mark Martin is a risky play this weekend. He finished 20th or worse in both starts at the track last season, and he clearly is on the decline overall. Martin doesn’t have a top-five finish this season, and it isn’t likely to come this weekend.
He used to be one of the top drivers at Richmond, but Greg Biffle has really struggled since the introduction of the Car of Tomorrow. He has failed to finish in the top-10 in his last eight starts at the track, and he didn’t even crack the top-20 in either start last season. Biffle is on a hot streak right now, but it probably comes to an end this weekend.
