Free MLB Picks and Odds: Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Predictions 5/7/11: The Detroit Tigers were baffled by a static Jays pitcher in Jesse Litsch last night and will look to even up the series this afternoon at the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto. They started off hot last night and almost cashed in on the games first run but an excellent throw from Jays outfielder Juan Riveria robbed them at home plate. They took a back seat after that inning ending play and watched as Jesse Litsch mowed down the entire line up and the Jays hitters take advantage of some slow moving breaking balls. Phil Coke took to the mound last night for the Tigers and his chances may be coming quickly to an end in the motor city after another rough outing. Coke game up 11 hits and 4 earned runs through 6 innings of work, stats that are just not going to cut it at this level. He now has a (1-5) record on the year and a 4.75 ERA, the rumblings of him being sent elsewhere are starting to be felt all around Comerica. A good sign for the Tigers, though, is that Brandon Inge might have finally found his bat again. Inge had another hit last night, a two run double, and he is now putting together a small little hit streak. Demoted into the nine spot, Inge has had a tumultuous season to this point as he his hitting an ugly .202 and is top 5 in the American League in strikeouts. He received a resounding vote of confidence from skipper Jim Leyland last week as rumors floated that he would be sent down and he has responded with some timely hits in the last three outings. It will be imperative for him and the rest of the dwindling Tigers bats to heat up for the final two games of this series because we know the Jays can hit.
Toronto has played an inconsistent game of baseball to this point in the season but they seem to be building on their mistakes and could possibly be ready for some extended winning streaks. Adam Lind might just be the man to lead this club as he is becoming more and more clutch by the night. He is on an 11 game hit streak after recording two hits last night (single, homer) and bumping his average up to .317. He is spreading the ball all over the field and giving teams issues with setting up to field him. The Jays home run leader from last season, Jose Bautista, should be back in the line up for Sundays wrap up tilt. The Jays will send their uncontested ace in Ricky Romero to the mound this afternoon to look for a second win in this three game set. The right hander has an ERA of 3 on the season and he seems to be more and more stronger each start he gets. He has a plethora of big time pitches, but his sinking breaking ball might be one of the best in the league.
The complimentary selection this afternoon will lie with the Toronto Blue Jays playing on home turf in the second game of this three game set. The Jays send Ricky Romero to the mound this afternoon that has been getting increasingly lethal with each start. Romero is a great home field pitcher and he should have a field day against the fastball hitting Tigers. Romero has proven to be a stalwart against fastball hitters in this league as he loves to use his deceptive off speed pitches to get these kind of guys. The Tigers throw a line up of 6-7 hitters each night that rely on the fastball to come their way, should make for an interesting afternoon in Toronto. Justin Verlander will get the ball for the visitors today, which was great for this team a year ago but he has had a rather inconsistent season to this point in this campaign. He is not getting out of jams anymore and clubs are finding patterns in the pitches he throws. We will consider the Jays picking up the win this afternoon on the merits of Ricky Romero and his deceptive ensemble. Cheers!
