Free MLB Picks, Tips and Odds: Phialdelphia Phillies @ Toronto Blue Jays Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Expert Predictions 7/2/11: Roy Halladay returns to the city he called home for over a decade in what should be one of the most entertaining games, baseball wise, north of the border in some time. The face of the franchise for the majority of his tenure, Roy Halladay rose to his iconic status while pitching off the mound in Sky Dome, now referred to as Rogers Centre. Halladay brings in his National League leading 10-3 record, along with his stifling 2.40 ERA. Never one to complain, Roy Halladay was granted his wish to play for a contender after years of inept baseball in Toronto. He has made the transfer to his new club, and new league for that matter, seamless and he is still the all-star he was in his prime years. The Philadelphia Phillies took advantage of a shaky closer for the Jays in Frank Francisco and capitalized on a fast start in the top of the ninth to take the opening game win. Kyle Kendrick, who started in Friday afternoons contest, was shaky at best and was witnessed laboring in several key situations. The Phillies hung took all afternoon and answered each big inning of the Jays with timely hitting and exquisite base running. Saturday afternoons game sets up as not only an important one for the Phillies pitcher, but it should be a loud and energetic Rogers Centre that will look to get the Phillies off their game.
The Toronto Blue Jays want Saturdays game bad and they would love nothing more then to show Roy Halladay that they are not afraid of him. Jose Bautista will look to regain the lead in homers against one of the games best hurlers on Saturday afternoon, he drove his 25th to right centre in the eighth inning yesterday afternoon which tied him up with the Yankees Teixeria. The Jays will send Carlos Villaneuva to the mound on Saturday afternoon to battle against Halladay, Carlos has been quite admirable for the Blue Jays this season and he has shown flashes of brilliance at times. The Blue Jays who seem to be yet another year away from competing for the AL East crown are hopeful to get some of their young minor league talent a chance to compete soon. Most notably Brett Laurie, who has been analyzed and picked as the next big thing in major league baseball. He hits for the fences and he rarely goes down on strikes, the Jays have been patient with his development and have made sure they have not rushed him, they did not want to make the same mistake they did with Travis Snider. His peers and MLB heads honored Adam Lind, who is 4 weeks removed from the disabled list, for his month of June. The Jays want nothing more then to come out Saturday and swing for the fences against their old friend in Roy Halladay, this has been a game circled on their calendars for some time.
In this afternoons contest, the complimentary selection will be the Toronto Blue Jays prevailing over their old ace in Roy Halladay. The Blue Jays, even with their sub .500 record, are an extremely dangerous bunch and they have the offense to compete with any club. The Jays seem to get up for affairs against old peers, such as AJ Burnett and Chris Carpenter, they have a passion to show them up. The Rogers Centre, which is rarely raucous, will be lively and loud on Saturday afternoon which always has a positive impact on the home club. Most of the Jays offense played with Roy while he was a member of the Canadian club and they should be well prepared in situational hitting. We will consider the Toronto Blue Jays picking up the win this afternoon that sets up as their World Series of the 2011 season. Cheers!
