Free MLB Picks and Odds: New York Yankees @ Toronto Blue Jays Favorite, Moneyline, Total and Predictions 4/19/11: The New York Yankees have been playing some great baseball for some time now and they lead the AL East by three games. They are getting contributions from all hitters and their pitching rotation is next to none. Team personnel are quite happy to see AJ Burnett, a questionable part of the mix in spring training, lead the majors in wins. He is commanding his fast ball and he is getting movement on his other pitches in his ensemble of throws. Alex Rodriguez has seemed to find his ‘A-game’ once again and he is in a zone of his own as of late. He is locating his strike zone and not swinging at unnecessary pitches as in years past. He is also taking a more mature approach to stardom in that he is flying under the radar with the media and is going about his business in a professional approach. He will need to keep up this new-found approach to the game if he has ambitions of climbing even higher in the MLB record books. They are coming off of a rather successful home-stand against the Rangers, capped off by a come from behind victory on Sunday night. The see-saw affair saw 5 different lead changes but it was the clutch hitting of the Yanks that propelled them to victory in the latter stages of the match. Russell Martin is the early season candidate for MVP, arguably, as he is lighting up the league with his hitting and on base averages. He is calling games behind the plate superbly and he is giving the young Yankee pitchers every chance to succeed.

The Toronto Blue Jays come home after a terrible road-trip that saw them lose their top spot in the AL East to the Yankees. The Angles, Mariners, and Red Sox all had the number of the Blue Jays and the Jays gave fans nothing to cheer about. Their most recent series saw them lose 3 of 4 to the Boston Red Sox, a series that saw the hitting drop significantly and the starting pitchers torched. Hitting was one of the reasons to believe in Jays’ land coming out of spring training but thus far they have really failed to show up. Jose Bautista might be the only player on the club that comes close to consistent. Management of Toronto, at this point, made the right decision in not picking up the option on second basemen Aaron Hill. He has faltered at the plate to this point and he is not the same fielder as he once was. The combination of injuries and time away from the game has really affected his ability. Yunel Escobar might be the only bright spot and unforeseen highlight for this club to this point, he is 5th in the league in hitting average and he is a much more assertive hitter this year.

The play tonight rides with the Blue Jays at home. Toronto will be facing their ex-comrade in AJ Burnett, a player that gets the Jays’ troops extra incentive. Ever since leaving for New York he has struggled mightily to control the Jays’ hitters. I expect Toronto to come out swinging against a fast ball throwing Burnett. Toronto will counter with Kyle Drabek who is living up to his billing on every appearance on the mound. He has a tremendous ensemble of pitches and he is not afraid to challenge good hitters with his fastball. The Blue Jays are in need of a win and I expect the home crowd to be a friendly reminder of why it is preferable to play at home. We will consider the Toronto Blue Jays getting it done at the Rogers Centre against the Bronx Bombers. Cheers!
